History of Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge is the world’s first steel-wire suspension bridge which connects Brooklyn and Manhattan in New York. The bridge was designed by John Augustus Roebling but in an accident, John Augustus died and made his son Washington Roebling the in charge of the construction of the bridge which began on 3rd January in the year 1870. It took around 13 years to complete the bridge which was then open to the public on 24 May 1883. The first person to cross the bridge was Emily Warren Roebling. The total length of the bridge is 1825 meters making it the longest bridge in the world until 1903.
