History of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park
This national park is located in Wandoor and was established in the year 1983. It is just 30 km away from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Initially, it was home to tribal communities. Located in the South Andaman covering an area of 281.50 square kilometers, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park has always been the point of interest. It is also home to many migratory birds. Moreover, it is famous for its bewitching sea turtles that offer an alluring sight. After the park was hit by the 2004 tsunami, it was shut down for some time but soon reopened. Out of all 15 islands, only two are open for tourists, i.e., Jolly Buoy and Redskin.
The best time to visit the Mahatma Gandhi National Marine Park is during the months of November and May when the Sun is soothing and the waves calm. Monsoon creates adverse conditions due to continuous downpour and Summers can be scorching hot. Therefore, making winters the best possible choice.
