Tourist Places In Melbourne

The coastal capital of Australia’s south-eastern state Victoria, Melbourne can easily compete with the country’s capital Sydney in terms of popularity and tourist footfall. It is because of the innumerable places to visit in the city.

Beach destinations in Melbourne

Although not as popular as the New South Wales counterparts, there are quite a few beaches in Melbourne as well. In fact, the beaches are some of the best places to visit in Melbourne during spring and summer. St Kilda beach of Port Phillip Bay is the most popular one among the lot. It is great for swimming, walking, cycling, rollerblading or simply enjoying the city’s skyline and some brilliant sunsets. Brighton beach is known for colourful bathing boxes while the Elwood beach is a great secluded spot for ocean-watching.

Museums in Melbourne

Staying true to the title of Australia’s cultural capital, the city of Melbourne is dotted with museums and galleries. Melbourne Museum is one of the best attractions in Melbourne, Australia. The museum traces back life and evolution in Victoria region over 600 million years, explore the maritime and colonial history and the ancestral heritage of the aboriginals – the original residents of Australia. The Immigration Museum, Hellenic Museum, the autobiographical museum of pianist Percy Grainger, Chinese Museum and the Old Melbourne Gaol are spectacular Melbourne city attractions.

Here are some of the best Melbourne attractions.

A ride on the Ferris wheel Melbourne Star – the city’s own equivalent to the London Eye – is an absolute must. One can also visit the Icehouse for an enthralling ice sports centre experience.

3. Shrine of Remembrance

Moving away from the glitz and glamour that the city is so well known for, the Shrine of Remembrance is a destination that one must include in Melbourne sightseeing. Situated in the Kings Domain Garden, the epitaph here is decorated with the names of the Victorians who laid down their lives for the Allies during the First World War. The place hosts ceremonies on Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day.

4. Royal Botanic Gardens

Located near to the CBD area of Melbourne south of the Yarra River, the Royal Botanic Gardens is home to over 8500 different species of flora. Established in 1846, this garden has some of the rarest of plants in its 38 hectares area that falls in Melbourne – the rest is in Cranbourne. This is one of the best Melbourne places to visit. Explore the rich indigenous heritage of Australia along the Aboriginal Heritage Walk or enjoy a traditional high tea at The Terrace Café.

5. Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum is a must-include name in Melbourne city sightseeing tour. Surrounded by a beautifully curated garden, this archaic building houses a dynamic collection of antiquities and cultural displays. Neeraj's 7 days trip to Melbourne

Really satisfied with the trip! All the hotels provided had pretty good location. Rohit from Hubholiday was very active throughout all stages of the trip, right from planning the itinerary to the very end . We planned our entire itinerary during late hours and Rohit was happily available to receive calls during those odd hours mostly after 12 midnight! Execution was as good as the planning. These guys , Rohit and Prashant, were available for queries throughout the trip. They entertained even the last minute changes. Overall an excellent trip to a beautiful country!

Sachin's 10 days trip to Melbourne

We did not like the arrangements at all. They could have been much better planned and executed if they would have thought about their customers even a bit. After hundreds of calls, messages and emails from my husband, the final vouchers were handed to us 8 hours before our flight.. we did not even have time to take a careful look at them.. The sightseeing tours were not selected thoughtfully. Most of the sightseeings were at max 1.5 hours long and repititive like the Skydeck in Melbourne, Skypoint in Gold coast, Harbour cruise in Sydney, etc.. and then the entire day was left free, which is good for some days but not all days which was the case with us. Better sightseeing tours should have been planned. We had to book several additional sightseeing tours on Viator.com so as to be able to experience Australia.. If we would have followed only the itinerary prepared by the agent, we wouldn't even have seen a Kangaroo or Koala Bear even after spending so much money and staying for 10 days in Australia.. It was evident that the cheapest of sightseeing tours available were booked for us, for example, the cruise in Sydney was an hour long and consisted of us just sitting on a ferry and seeing the harbour without anyone telling us what we are seeing.. It was a complete waste of time, we got much more information while riding on Ferries for our visit to the zoo that we booked separately.. No pickups from our Hotels were arranged even when complimentary pickups were available with the tours booked.. No directions were provided to us regarding where to reach and how.. No information on local transport available and how to travel was provided.. We know how Google Maps work and therefore got to the specified locations, however, any aged or not so tech savvy travellers would have missed their tours repeatedly.. It was a total chaos. On top of all that, this was my husband's birthday trip and he had told this to the agent several times, but they were not even courteous enough to book us a cake.. The agent wished a very Happy Birthday to my husband on Whatsapp though.. The rooms booked for us in Sydney didn't have complimentary breakfast and were so small that there was hardly any space to stand apart from the queen bed that was provided to the 2 of us.. The upgrades were available starting at just Rs. 1500 per night but they booked us the cheapest option so that they could pocket as much money as possible.. We felt cheated time and again during the entire trip. We will never travel with HubHolidays again and would suggest others too not to make that mistake..
