Australian Museum is located on the intersection of William Street and College Street in Sydney and is one of the oldest museums in Australia.

Opened in 1827 by Earl Bathurst, it is famous for its collection on natural history and diversity across the whole world. Originally it was established as the Colonial Museum or Sydney Museum and was renamed to Australian Museum in 1836.

As Australia is famous for its flora and fauna, one of the attractions is its native animal Koala. But the diversity of sea animals is much more fascinating than the terrestrial animals. The museum also conducts research on reptiles like snakes and lizards due to which some unusual breeds of these reptiles are present in this museum. Initially, at the time of its opening, there was only one gallery in the Australian Museum.

A total of 400 animals are showcased on the Wild Planet display.

Free guided tours are available every day at 11:00 am and 02:00 pm which is subject to availability.

The museum hosts touring exhibitions on a regular basis, one such touring exhibition is the wildlife photographer of the year.

The dinosaur exhibition uses realistic animations and giant skeletons to tell about the story of dinosaurs and their demise.

Visitors at the Australian Museum in Sydney can participate in several educational programs such as Museum in a Box, Science Festival, Kids at the AM, and self-guided activities. Sydney Science Festival is a celebrated event held every year in August at the museum.
