The Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels are a group of five museums which are home to over 20,000 pieces of art including paintings, drawings, sculptures dating from the 15th century to the present day. Also called Musées Royaux Des Beaux Arts, these museums are situated in the downtown Royal District. Located a few kilometers away from the 5 main museums is another smaller structure, housing collections from Constantin Meunier and Antoine Wiertz which is now commonly considered a part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.
Attractions
Oldmasters Museums: This Museum is known for its extensive collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. With most of the Flemish Paintings presented in a chronological order valuable panels from many primitives are on display here. Another major attraction here are about 20 paintings by the famous artist, Ruben which are all arranged in a special room dedicated to him. Â
Magritte Museum: Housing one of the richest collections of paintings by the Belgian surrealist painter Rene Magritte, this museum opened its doors to the public in the year 2009. Most of the paintings and art works in this museum have been given by the widow of the artist and his primary collector, Irene.
Fin-de-Siecle Museum: Inaugurated in the year 2013, this museum presents collections from artists like Constantin Meunier, James Ensor, Henri Evenepoel, Fernand Khnopff etc.
Wiertz Museum: Having been used as a studio by the painter himself, the life works of the famous Antoine Wiertz are displayed and honored here. Offering unique views of the monumental paintings statues and sketches marked by the Romantic Movement, this museum is definitely worth a visit.
Meunier Museum: Located in the former house and workshop of Constantine Meunier, this museum houses over 150 paintings and works of the realist painter and sculptor.
