Best Tourist Places To Explore In Odisha

Odisha has numerous places to visit, but here are a few you should not miss while booking an Odisha family trip package -

1. Jagannath Temple

What’s Special: Spiritual significance

Timings: 5 am-11:30 pm

Transportation Option: Taxi, bus, auto

The most prominent temple in the Char-Dham circuit, Jaganath Temple, is devoted to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The idol of Lord Jagannath made from wood is divine. The temple serves Mahaprasad in the afternoon, which includes Ghee Rice, Dalma, Mahura, Khichdi, Besar, and Kanika (sweet rice). This temple is one of the main tourist attractions in the Odisha Family Tour Packages.

2. Chilka Lake

What’s Special: Brackish water lagoon

Timings: 8 am-5 pm

Transportation Option: Auto, taxi, bus

Chilka Lake is the largest coastal-region lagoon in India and the second-largest brackish water lagoon in the world. The lake is at a stretch of about 1,100 square kilometers, a portion of which can be covered by a boat ride to visit the surrounding places like Kalijai Temple, Breakfast Island, Nalabana Island, Satpada, Rambha Bay, etc. On the boat ride, birds like White-bellied sea eagles, Greylag geese, Kingfishers, and other species, can be spotted. Photography and nature enthusiasts will have the time of their lives by including this spot in their Odisha Tour Packages for Family.

3. Bhitarkanika National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary

What’s Special: Residence of the largest crocodile in India, Boat Tour

Timings: 8 am-5 pm

Transportation Option: Taxi, Auto

India’s second largest mangrove wetland, Bhitarkanika National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is known as the “Mini Amazon of India.” Bhitarkanika is an amalgamation of ‘Bhitar,’ which means ‘inner,’ and ‘Kanika,’ which means ‘beauty.’ The largest crocodile in India resides in the forest of Bhitarkanika. Other animals like wild boars, monitor lizards, snakes, spotted dear, etc., can also be spotted. You can opt for a boat tour of the wetlands starting from the Dangamal Jetty Point in the Odisha Family Packages.

4. Konark Temple

What’s Special: Sacred spot

Timings: 6 am-6:30 pm

Transportation Option: Auto, taxi, bus

Dedicated to Sun God, the word Konark originates from the words ‘Kon’ meaning ‘corner’ and ‘ark’ meaning ‘Sun,’ gradually meaning the Sun’s corner. This ancient temple was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The first ray of the Sun falls in the direction of the entrance point of the temple. There is a carving of a huge chariot drawn by seven spirited horses on twelve pairs of carved wheels. A light and sound show is conducted in the evening on the temple premises except for Mondays. In the temple complex, you will find an Arka Khetra, which houses the replica of the Konark Temple.

5. Udaygiri and Khandagiri Caves (Cuttack Caves)

What’s Special: Ancient caves

Timings: 9 am-6 pm

Transportation Option: Bus, taxi, auto

The caves built under the rule of King Kharavela were for the Jain monks to stay and meditate. Presently, Udaygiri has 18 caves, whereas, Khandagiri has 15 caves. While each cave and sculpture was handcrafted using only elementary tools, every sculpture drew references from history and mythology. Family tour packages in Odisha offer a visit to this place of historical significance.

Best Time To Visit Odisha

April to June

Summer arrives with scorching heat, which makes it difficult for sightseeing during the day. However, you can visit the “Kashmir of Odisha” Daringbadi, a hill station in the Kandhmal district, or Chandragiri to escape the hot weather.

July to September

The monsoon season in Odisha comes with heavy rainfall, amplifying the lush greenery after the shower. The areas located around the coast experience tornadoes and cyclones. Odisha has few visitors during this season.

October to March

It is the best time to visit Odisha in scorch-less weather. The temperature drops during the winters, and a cool breeze follows, making this season ideal for sightseeing. If you are traveling in December, witness the famous Konark Dance Festival held at Konark Temple in Puri.

Dinesh's 5 days trip to Odisha

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Odisha, and it was an unforgettable experience, thanks to the amazing sights, rich culture, and excellent services. Here’s a breakdown of my experience with the key attractions, accommodations, and cab service: ### 1. **Hotels:** The hotels I stayed at during my tour were well-selected and comfortable. In **Puri**, The room was clean, well-maintained, and the staff was polite and attentive., I stayed in a centrally located hotel that was perfect for exploring the temples and other local attractions. One of my favourite hotel stay at Taptapani hill Resort. The amenities were top-notch, and the rooms were spacious, ensuring a restful stay after a day of sightseeing. ### 2. **Cab Service:** The cab service throughout my trip was excellent. “Basudeb” was punctual, professional, and well-versed with the routes to all the tourist spots. The Toyota Rumion was comfortable and air-conditioned, making long rides enjoyable. “Basudeb” also provided valuable insights into the culture and history of the places we visited, which added a personal touch to the journey. ### 3. **Key Places Visited:** - **Jagannath Puri Temple:** The highlight of my trip, the **Jagannath Temple** in Puri is an architectural marvel. The atmosphere is electric, filled with devotion and grandeur. The rituals and cultural significance of the temple left me in awe. - **Konark Sun Temple:** The **Konark Sun Temple** is another must-visit. The intricate carvings, coupled with its historical significance, make it one of the most impressive temples I’ve visited in India. The sheer scale and beauty of the temple left me speechless. - **Chilika Lake:** A boat ride on **Chilika Lake** was an absolute highlight. The serene waters, surrounded by lush greenery, made for a peaceful and scenic experience. We also spotted some river dolphins, which added a touch of nature's beauty to the trip. - **Lingaraj Temple:** The **Lingaraj Temple** in Bhubaneswar is a classic example of Kalinga architecture. The temple's massive size and ornate carvings were breathtaking. It’s one of the oldest temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the spiritual atmosphere is palpable. - **Mukteshwar Temple:** This small yet beautiful temple is a hidden gem in Bhubaneswar. The carvings and the serene environment around the temple make it a peaceful spot to visit. - **64 Yogini Temple:** In Bhubaneswar, I visited another famous 64 Yogini Temple in the Hirapur area. this one is relatively well-preserved and gives a better sense of the temple's original layout and purpose. It has 64 small stone cells, each of which was once home to a deity representing one of the Yoginis. The temple is small and simple in comparison to the grand temples of Odisha, but there’s a deep spiritual energy here. I spent time observing the intricately carved stone sculptures, which depict various deities and symbolic motifs. The temple was quiet, which allowed for a reflective visit. - **Taptapani:** The hot water springs in **Taptapani** offered a unique experience. I soaked in the warm waters, which were incredibly relaxing, especially after a long day of sightseeing. - **Tibetan Village:** The **Tibetan Village** was a lovely stop. The peaceful vibe, combined with Tibetan culture, monasteries, and handicrafts, was a delightful experience. I learned a lot about Tibetan traditions and had the chance to purchase beautiful souvenirs. ### 4. **Overall Experience:** The entire trip was well-organized, with seamless transitions from one place to the next. The combination of cultural exploration, relaxation at Chilika Lake, spiritual immersion at the temples, and the scenic beauty of places like Taptapani made this tour an enriching experience. The cab service ensured that my journey was comfortable, and the accommodations were cozy and well-located. Overall, this tour to Odisha was a fantastic mix of spirituality, nature, and culture. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the best of Odisha! Deepti's 7 days trip to Odisha

It was a great experience. The services of both the travel agent Mr. Shibhashish and driver Mr. Sujan Kumar were excellent and highly recommended. Stay at hotel pride ananya was very comfortable. An advice to anyone visiting Orissa, please stay alert for all pandit jis.. most of them want more and more money out of you and it ruins the whole experience of visiting the temples... never saw this scenario anywhere except Puri, was highly disappointed. Would request tour organizers to make people aware of the same. The only Saving grace was successful darshan of bhagwan Jagannath ji. Visit to Chandrabagha beach, konark and Jagannath temple.

Anjani's 5 days trip to Odisha

Overall our trip was very good. Mr Shibashis from Inde D Voyage included all the places we wanted to visit and we had a near perfect itinerary for 5 days. The driver Mr. Videshi was very cooperative and had all the knowledge of the places we visited and we had a great time interacting with him. We were 2 female travellers only and we felt very safe through out the entire trip. The driver was able to adapt in the case of unseen circumstances and changed the order of the places to give us ample time to visit the places properly. Only one thing regarding Hotel Sapphire Plaza the day we reached, the room had smelly bedsheets and pillow covers but they did change it after complaining, so it was good service from the hotel management. The breakfast served at both the hotels was good. We will definitely visit Puri again with the same agency in future.

Ms's 3 days trip to Odisha

Entire trip was good except the additional charges they asked for child. Travel agent and hotel argued that child is not included in my request. Though it was clearly mentioned in the invoice, 3 adults, 1 child, they blamed Travel Triangle for not sending them the child's information. Finally I had to pay for child additionally for 1 breakfast.

Pragya's 5 days trip to Odisha

The trip was nice. The only feedback I would like to give is that while making the itinerary the a'noon & evening should be taken care of. The places which are best to go in evening time like Peace pagoda, Udaygiri & Khandagiri caves should be planned in evening time & not in the mrng or a'noon when it's v sunny & hot. We would have enjoyed those places v much if they would have been in our itinerary in the evening time.

How To Reach Odisha?

By Air

Biju Patnaik International Airport, located in the capital city of Bhubaneshwar, is the nearest airport to Odisha, where the frequency of flights is high.

By Rail

Depending on the days of their run, 255 trains stop by Bhubaneswar Railway Station. With well-built platforms, this station has direct connectivity to many cities. Also, other cities in Odisha - Puri, Cuttack, Brahmapur, and many more, have railway stations, from where trains run daily to many other major cities.

By Road

Odisha has good connectivity with the Eastern states of India like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, etc. However, by road, it takes long hours from the Northern, Western, and Southern states to reach Odisha. Therefore, either air or rail transportation is preferred.
