The eastern state of Odisha is home to a plethora of ancient Hindu temples that lure devotees from all around the world. However, even apart from temples, the state is home to many intriguing places that one can explore. Listed below are some of the best places to visit in Odisha.

Konark Sun Temple: This 13th-century Hindu temple is devoted to the Sun God and is one of the most visited temples in Odisha. It is situated in Konark. The word Konark in Sanskrit means the corner of the Sun. Apart from religious views what lures people here is the intriguing architecture that is shaped like a giant chariot. It is also declared a World Heritage Site. Another attraction of this temple is the stone carvings present on the walls of the temple. Figurines of certain animals such as elephants, snakes, etc. Moreover, the temple is an ideal place for history buffs and mythology lovers. It is said that the mythological reference the temple states the passage of time.

Caves of Khandagiri: One cannot miss out on the Caves of Khandagiri when listing the places to visit in Odisha. They are an integral part of the heritage of Odisha. They are situated in the city of Bhubaneswar and are an important Jain pilgrimage center. The caves are situated at an elevation of 118 feet. One can either reach straight up by road or can take the fleet of stairs to explore the caves. In total, there are 15 beautiful caves. Each cave has intriguing paintings.

Nandankanan Zoological Park: It was established in the year 1960 and has now turned it a full-fledged national park housing around 34 tigers. Apart from tigers, it is also home to 75 species of birds, Asiatic lions, and many other amazing creatures. It is located at a distance of 20 km from the city of Bhubaneswar. Spread over an area of 4.37 sq km, the park is also famous for the magnificent white tigers. It is mostly a part of Odisha sightseeing.

Jagannath Temple: Jagannath Temple is one of the best places to visit in Puri, Odisha, and an important pilgrimage site. This Hindu temple is devoted to Lord Jagannath. The history of Jagannath Temple dates back to the year 1078. As per their ritual, the flag on top of the temple is changed on a daily basis. Many people also consider it an architectural marvel. It also has many legends attached to the architectural style of the temple. Here, you also get to savor prasadam which is prepared in the temple itself. The temple host a grand event each year, it is the Rath Yatra. It is an annual parade that draws a massive number of people.

Lingaraj Temple: Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar is one of the best places to visit in Odisha. It was established by Jajati Keshari in the 11th century. One can also find the reference of this temple in the Brahma Purana. It is devoted to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The entire temple is subdivided into four different parts, i.e., Yajna Shala, Natya Shala, Garbh Griha, and Bhoga Mandap. The architecture of the temple is influenced by Kalinga style.
