Chamunda Devi Temple in Himachal is a major attraction for people from all over the country, who visit the city. The temple is located in Kangra District in Himachal Pradesh. The temple is said to be older than almost 750 years, and is located on the banks of the River Baner. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, a fiercer reincarnation of Goddess Durga. There are also several other idols in the temple, including Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva and Lord Bhairava. There is a beautiful marble staircase near the main shrine, which will take devotees to the underground cave of Lord Shiva, which is an ancient and seemingly mysterious place. History of Chamunda Devi Temple
Shumbha and Nishumbh were two brothers who planned to cover three worlds to gain powers of immortality. For this reason they put themselves through punishments and rituals related to purification. Both the brothers travelled to God Brahma and their wishes were granted. Later both the brothers misused their powers and tried to kidnap the Devi. They were not protected from the Devi and hence were killed by her. After this incidence Devi was named Chamunda.

Relocation of the Chamunda Devi Temple
It is believed that around 400 years ago, a King and a Brahmin Saint prayed to Maa Chamunda asking her permission to move her idol to a more accessible location. Devi came in the dream of the saint and granted permission to relocate her idol.
