Reaching Bhutan By Road (Cars/Buses)
If you love going on road trips, then probably, you are better off not taking flights. India has 3 main border points with Bhutan - Jaigaon – Phuentsholing Border, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar.
- The Phuentsholing border area is the most preferred option located around 160 km from Bagdogra in West Bengal. You may also hire private taxis from Bagdogra Airport or Siliguri to reach Bhutan. The fare is usually between 2,000 to 3,000 INR. The total journey time can be around 5-6 hours depending on the traffic.
- For bus travel, you can take one from Kolkata as direct buses from the Esplanade Station in Kolkata will take you directly to Phuentsholing. The journey is around 18 hours from here but if you are in Siliguri, then it is only going to be around 4 hours.
