Nanaiah purchased the land from the Government and set up different spice plantations around the place. As the forests were cleared up, the natural beauty of the place, alluring streams and waterfalls were exposed to the people. The area has been private property since but it has not proved to be an issue to the tourists.

Since the beauty of Abbey Falls is at its peak during the monsoon season, it is the best time to experience its beauty. So, July to October is the best time to plan a trip to Abbey Falls in Madikeri. But travelers who want to avoid the monsoon rains can plan their trip at any time of the year.
