The highway also connects Chandigarh, Ludhiana, and Pathankot with New Delhi. The time taken from Delhi to Jammu by public transport on this route is two days. The north end of 2.5-km-long Jawahar Tunnel leads traffic into the Kashmir Valley. A Delhi to Kashmir bus takes about 20 hours to cover the distance.
