Betaab Valley charges a single, small entry fee that is the same for Indian and foreign visitors. There is no separate camera fee at the gate. The ticket window takes cash, so keep some notes handy before you leave Pahalgam.

Beyond the entry ticket, budget for a few small on-ground costs: parking runs about Rs 30 for a two-wheeler and Rs 50 for a car, and the public toilet charges around Rs 10. A pony ride inside the valley is roughly Rs 700 to Rs 1,200 depending on the circuit, and the newer rope-cycling ride carries its own charge. All of these are paid in cash on the spot.

Betaab Valley timings and opening time

Betaab Valley is open every day. The gate runs roughly from 8:00 am to sunset, and in peak summer it can open as early as 7:00 am. There is no weekly closing day, but weekends draw big crowds, so a weekday morning gives you the quietest light for photos.

One timing caveat matters during the Amarnath Yatra, which in 2026 runs from about 3 July to 28 August. On convoy days the road up the Lidder valley can close to tourist traffic earlier than usual, around 12:30 pm, so aim to reach Betaab in the morning if you travel in that window.

How to reach Betaab Valley from Pahalgam

Betaab Valley is about 7 to 8 km from Pahalgam town, roughly 20 to 30 minutes northeast along the Lidder River road towards Chandanwari. Outside taxis and rental cars from Srinagar are not allowed past Pahalgam on this stretch, so you switch to a cab from the Pahalgam taxi union. A return trip to Betaab Valley on its own is about Rs 1,600 for an SUV, and each stop usually includes an hour of waiting time.

Most visitors club Betaab with the two other valley stops, which is where the taxi makes sense. A combined Aru Valley, Betaab and Chandanwari circuit typically costs Rs 2,300 to Rs 3,000 for the day. For the full route detail see our Betaab Valley guide.

Parking, payment and online booking

There is no online ticket for Betaab Valley, and you do not need one. You simply pay at the gate. The counter is cash only, with no card machine or UPI, and the same is true of the parking attendant, the pony operators and the snack stalls inside. Carry enough cash for the tickets, parking, a ride and a bite. If anyone offers you a paid 'skip the queue' online booking for the valley itself, it is not official.

Best time to visit and nearby valleys

The two sweet spots are April to May, when snow still lines the peaks against fresh green meadows, and September to October, when the poplars turn gold. June to September is the busy peak with the fullest greenery. Betaab was the shooting location for the 1983 film that gave it its name, and the meadow framed by pine ridges and the Lidder stream is still the shot everyone comes for.

If you are making a day of it, pair Betaab with Aru Valley and Chandanwari. Chandanwari is a short hop further up the same road, while Aru sits on the other branch of the Lidder, so the taxi doubles back through Pahalgam to reach it.
