Is Betaab Valley open today?

Yes. Betaab Valley in Pahalgam is open every day of the week, with no weekly closed day. The gates run roughly from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, opening around dawn and closing near dusk. One thing changes that answer: on Amarnath Yatra convoy days the road up from Pahalgam can shut by early afternoon, so a morning visit is the safe call.

Betaab Valley opening and closing hours

The valley keeps the same hours through the week. In peak summer, when daylight stretches past 7 PM, the gates often stay open a little later; in deep winter they close closer to sunset. Aim to reach by mid-morning so you get a full hour or two inside before the taxi turnaround.

Note: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM is the reliable year-round figure. Peak-summer gate times can run closer to 8:00 PM, and some local operators quote "8 AM to sunset", so treat the last hour as weather- and season-dependent.

Entry fee and the taxi halt, in brief

Entry to Betaab Valley costs about Rs 100 per adult and Rs 50 per child aged 6 to 12, with under-6s free. It is a small, ticketed, gated site, and payment at the counter is cash only. Parking runs to roughly Rs 30 for a two-wheeler and Rs 50 for a car. Most Pahalgam taxi packages build in about a one-hour halt here, which is enough to walk the meadow, cross the little bridge and shoot the mountain backdrop. Does Betaab Valley close early during the Amarnath Yatra?

It can. The Amarnath Yatra in 2026 runs from 3 July to 28 August, and Pahalgam is one of the two base routes. On convoy days the security movement can shut the Pahalgam-to-Chandanwari road, which is the same stretch that leads to Betaab Valley, by early afternoon (locals often quote around 12:30 PM). There is no single gazetted cut-off, so if you are visiting during those eight weeks, start early and check with your driver the night before.

How to reach Betaab Valley from Pahalgam

Betaab Valley sits about 7 to 8 km northeast of Pahalgam town, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive up the Lidder River road towards Chandanwari, at around 2,400 m (7,850 ft). Here is the catch most first-timers miss: outside taxis and rental cars from Srinagar are not allowed up this stretch. Only Pahalgam Taxi Union ("local union") taxis run sightseeing trips past the town, so you hire one at the union stand and it usually covers the Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari circuit together. Book the vehicle in the morning; the union rates are fixed and the queue grows through the day.

Best time to visit

If you want the snow-capped ridges in frame, December to June is the window. Late December to March brings snow to the valley floor and the peaks around it; May and June trade the snow for meadows in full green and the easiest driving. July and August are lush but overlap the Yatra convoy closures, and the monsoon can muddy the approach. Whatever the month, mornings are calmer, brighter for photos and clear of the afternoon rush.
