History of Ujjain

Ujjain also emerges as the political center of central India around 600 B.C.E. It was the capital of the ancient Avanti Kingdom, one of the sixteen Mahayanapadas. Ujjain is also called “City of the temple”. The saying goes beyond the fact that it has a lot of temples but for the fact that its temples are highly revered than most temples in other places.

Ujjain history has significant value and a crucial historical nature. The history of Ujjain states that initially the city was known as Ujjayini and as per epic Mahabharata Ujjayani was the capital of the Avanti Kingdom. Ujjain was ruled by the Sungas and the Satavahanas consecutively in the Post-Mauryan period.
