About National Monument In Kuala Lumpur
Nestled in the vicinity of the famous attraction, Lake Gardens at the centre of the city of Kuala Lumpur, National Monument, is a historical attraction erected in the commemoration of 11000 people who died during the First World War. The 15 meter high bronze statue of seven soldiers, which is one of the largest free-standing bronze sculptures in the world, has also found its mention in the book of records.
Sprawling over around 48562 sq meter of area, the historical attraction comprises a monument, pavilion, fountain, a war memorial, and the surrounding gardens. Designed by Felix de Weldon in the year 1966, the statue of seven soldiers represents seven qualities, such as unity, courage, strength, sacrifice, suffering, vigilance, and leadership. The Prime Minister of the nation along with the police and heads of the military visit the National Monument, Kuala Lumpur to pay their respects to the freedom fighters on 31st July of each year.
