About National Mosque Of Malaysia In Kuala Lumpur

Situated beside the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, the National Mosque of Malaysia, also known as ‘Masjid Negara’ is considered as the nation-wide symbol of Islamic religion. Sprawling over 13 acres of land, this mosque can accommodate a minimum of 15,000 people. It is a focal point of muslim community in KL, and is believed to be designed to symbolize the independence of Malaysia. Moreover, its cultural significance also makes it an integral part of the sightseeing tour of the city of Kuala Lumpur.

History of Masjid Negara

Established in the year 1965 in order to commemorate the independence of Malaysia from the rule of Great Britain. Earlier the name of mosque was chosen to be given in honor of the Chief Minister at the time of British rule, who also later became the Prime Minister of the nation. However, when he declined the honor, the mosque was named as Masjid Negara.

Architecture of Masjid Negara

Apart from the grand prayer hall, the National Mosque of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur also consists of 48 smaller domes. The highlights of the mosque is its 18-pointed star dome which is believed to be representing the 13 states of Malaysia and 5 pillars of Islam religion. Head to this mosque, and get ready to be left aghast with its contemporary Islamic architecture featuring geometric lattice and abstract shapes carved into its roof, which makes it quite an attraction to explore.

I had booked my honeymoon package with the Sharing Travels. The travel itinerary was good as shared before. Langkawi was excellent but KL wasn't up to the expectations. It felt like a waste of time and money. KL can be explored on a self-basis much better than taking a package. Ginting highlands are good for kids and not for couples. The city tour was worst when the cab driver himself was amazed why such an odd time slot was given. Otherwise felt relief of mind by booking the package. More options should have been given to choose from and a travel guide should have been welcomed
