About Merdeka Square In Kuala Lumpur

Merdeka Square, formerly known as “Selangor Club Padang” or just “Padang,” is a very popular tourist attraction. Merdeka Square literally means “Independence Square,” where the Malaysian Flag was hoisted for the first time on 31st August 1957 at midnight. The square is surrounded by multiple flags and in the center is the world’s largest flagpole (95 meters tall). The surrounding flags represent various Federal Territories and Malaysian provinces. Merdeka Square holds a huge historical significance in Malaysian history and is surrounded by various other historical buildings. A tourist can spend quite a while here just being mesmerized by the colonial architecture of all the buildings. Right next to the square is Sultan Abdul Samad Building, formerly known as “Government Offices.” To the south of Merdeka Square, is Kuala Lumpur City Gallery, which houses miniature models explaining the story of Kuala Lumpur. It also hosts a Spectacular City Model show in the gallery itself. It has opened to the public recently and has gained a lot of attention from tourists.

Merdeka Square at night is a sight not to be missed. All the surrounding buildings, as well as Merdeka Square, are lit up for the light show. This show showcases the colonial architecture of the buildings. The square looks like a vision lit up with beautifully colored lights. As the former mayor of Kuala Lumpur announced that the roads would be closed from 9 PM to 4 AM, many of the local families, as well as the tourists, started walking around at night to enjoy their nights.

There is also a fountain, where families and tourists sit and enjoy a peaceful and quiet evening. On 31st August every year, there is a parade the Independence Day parade which is not to be missed. The culture of Malaysia is depicted beautifully in the parade every year and is a joyous occasion for everyone present.

Merdeka Square at night is filled with families and tourists, making it a vibrant surrounding. On the first week of every month, food trucks will be operating to cater to the crowd that visits this historical treasure. There are multiple races which are also arranged around the square to keep the public entertained. Merdeka Square at night gathers every person present and transforms them into one single community.

The pre travel experience was traumatic and pathetic. For one of the persons, there was a visa issue. Travel agent accepted the documents from us and said it will processed. But both times, it was rejected by embassy. Shows there was no prilminary check from the agent. With the travelling day closin
g in, eventually the clarity of visa getting processed was not clear untill the day of travel. The agent requested for a bribe of 5k to process the same. This was like if you dont pay 5k, we are risking Rs 2.90L of the trip We were left in lurch till Wednesday, whereas it was supposed to be hassle free tour. We got the visa rejection update on Friday and we resubmitted the documents within 1 hour on Friday. It was nerve wrecking experience on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. We eventually got the visa at 3pm on Wednesday (which is basically the travel day). Upon reaching malaysia, we found out on the 1st day that Petronas tower tour has been cancelled owing to no tickets. How unprofessional that was from Travel Triangle agents. The plan was given to agents some 20-25 days before. We have done past tours with Travel triangle, but this experience has to be worst one. this actually sums up why i willl not be availing facilities of TT in future. Sunset Cruise Dinner and Skybridge Tour in Langkawi was a great experience

Narayana's 11 days trip to Kuala Lumpur

First of all both me and my friend had booked the trip together with our families. He booked a different flight for both of us from Singapore to Malaysia and didn't arrange for the pick up from Airport to the hotel in Kuala Lumpur for my friend. Also because of lack of co-ordination, we could not do
the half day city tour that day and we had to squeeze in this on another day. They had charged us for the fast pass at universal studios in Singapore but finally gave us only the regular pass. We had to separately pay 60 Singapore Dollars per person to purchase that. Overall i would not recommend this agent to anyone. At one point of time we were at mercy of this guy because the plan was not in place and that too this happened after we reached Kuala Lumpur.

4 star hotel with good name was provided on the recommendation of the agent. When we reached hotel they were not ready to provide room before their check in time of 3pm. On the last day hotel power supply outage was there and we had to be without electricity for about 5 hours in the midnight. Really
bad experience. Trip was ok, points were ok city tour could have been more.

I am quite happy with the trips and all around management of the same. Most of the things were good with few exceptions and that might be because of some lack of knowledge from my side or their side but still overall experience is good. Anjali - with whom we planned our trip was nice, coordinating
and humble throughout the trip and even at onsite destination she was regularly in touch. Malaysia local tourist agency was also very professional and supportive. Pick-up, drop, local guiding, behavior, in all spheres they maintained their decency. So on gathering all the points on the scale of 10, I will give them 7.5. Langkawi hotel , Bella Vista, its sea side view and location in the city with all around facilities including Indian restaurant nearby for food gives us good experience there.
