History of Sugar Museum

The Sugar Museum in Mauritius is also known as the also known as L’Aventure du Sucre. It is located in the small village of Pamplemousses at the north of the country. The museum is filled with numerous big machinery, vacuum pans, evaporators, cylinders, blenders, and turbines.

The tour to the Sugar Museum takes tourists through an old sugar mill called the  Beau Plan Sugar Estate that has been transformed into a modern museum. The tour to the Sugar Museum starts from the facade of the factory building and goes through the process of production of sugar. This factory was used until the year 1970. This tour will nourish one's knowledge and will help know the importance of sugar production in the development of Mauritius's economy. 

The Sugar Museum is for people of all ages. There are two “mascots” to tell children about the history of sugar. The mascots are the mynah bird and the mongoose. They are the most widely found animals on the island. These mascots provide entertainment, ask questions and organize quizzes for children.
