About Rajarani Temple in Bhubaneshwar

The Rajarani Temple was established in the 11th century in Bhubaneswar and is a love symbol.

The temple on the exteriors has carvings of women and couples. There are no idols or images inside the sanctum of the temple, hence it doesn’t belong to any specific section of Hinduism. The temple is open for all and people can come and pray to any God or Goddesses. Though, one can find carvings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on the walls which tell us there could be some connection of Rajarani Temple with Shaivism.

History of Rajarani Temple

The exact year when the temple was constructed can’t be assessed however, it is believed that it was established between the 11th and 12th centuries. Initially, the temple was called Indreshwara Temple and later it got the name as Rajarani Temple. There was renovation and refurbishing work carried out in the year 1903. The place holds an image of an important and prestigious religious place in Bhubaneshwar. The temple is preserved and taken care of by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Architecture of Rajarani Temple

The Rajarani temple architecture is so beautiful and mesmerizing that it lures historians from all over the world. Each carving and structure inside the temple symbolizes something significant. The impressive temple was built using a reddish gold-colored sandstone which is known as Rajarani in the local language in Bhubaneshwar. The Rajarani Temple is built-in Pancha Ratha style which suggests that it is constructed on a raised platform and consists of two structures. The main or the central shrine has a height of about 17.9 meters and has a curvilinear spire over the roof. The viewing hall is called Jagmohan, it is basically a place from where the devotees or pilgrimage can see the main sanctum.

Hotel at Puri (Pride Ananya) was great in every aspect. The Adventure Hotel at Bhubaneswar was good at stay but very poor in services. Even after advance intimation from our travel agent as well as from us, they didn't provide packed breakfast as we had to leave early to take a flight. Regarding transportation, driver was great with average vehicle health. All the described places were covered and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Overall a very good and memorable trip by Inde D Voyage ! Hotels were convenient with tasty Breakfast spread ! Slight niggles were present in both hotels w.r.t the rooms but they were taken care of by the staff ! The cab driver Mr. Rakesh did his best on time-management to cover all the places per the iterinary and couple more places for our kids to play and enjoy !
