History of Rajarani Temple

The exact year when the temple was constructed can’t be assessed however, it is believed that it was established between the 11th and 12th centuries. Initially, the temple was called Indreshwara Temple and later it got the name as Rajarani Temple. There was renovation and refurbishing work carried out in the year 1903. The place holds an image of an important and prestigious religious place in Bhubaneshwar. The temple is preserved and taken care of by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Architecture of Rajarani Temple

The Rajarani temple architecture is so beautiful and mesmerizing that it lures historians from all over the world. Each carving and structure inside the temple symbolizes something significant. The impressive temple was built using a reddish gold-colored sandstone which is known as Rajarani in the local language in Bhubaneshwar. The Rajarani Temple is built-in Pancha Ratha style which suggests that it is constructed on a raised platform and consists of two structures. The main or the central shrine has a height of about 17.9 meters and has a curvilinear spire over the roof. The viewing hall is called Jagmohan, it is basically a place from where the devotees or pilgrimage can see the main sanctum.
