About Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary in Alwar

A tiger reserve that stretches in an area of 8 66 square kilometers, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction in the Alwar district of Rajasthan.

Not just rich in fauna, this reserve is also rich in flora consisting of plant species like deciduous trees, arid plants, tendu, ber, etc. Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier a hunting spot for the rulers of Alwar which in the year 1955 was converted to a wildlife reserve. Later, in the year 1990 it was declared a wildlife sanctuary. Being located in the foothills of Aravali ranges, the reserve is rich in minerals like copper.

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan is surrounded by rocky landscape, dense forests, and deciduous trees. It is famous for Royal Bengal Tigers and as per the current reports, it has a total of 18 tigers including cubs which are 5 in number. Other species of fauna spotted here are wild dog, nilgai, sambar, hanuman langur, chausingha, chitel, jungle cat etc. Several species of birds can also be seen at the reserve like bush quail, Indian peafowl, grey partridge, Indian eagle owls, etc. It also has the status of being the first wildlife sanctuary to relocate tigers successfully in the entire world. History of Sariska National Park

Earlier, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary was a hunting ground for the Royal kings until it became a sanctuary in the year 1955. In the year 1978, the area came under the tiger reserve project and was given a status of tiger reserve. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is covered by deciduous and dry trees from all around and covers an area of 340 sq mi.   

Flora and Fauna at Sariska National Park 

Flora: Not just rich in a variety of fauna, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary has a great variety of flora and the dominant one is deciduous trees like dhok. Other species of flora found here are ber, khair, gugal, bargad, tendu, gol, bamboo, and arjun. 

Fauna: Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary has a large variety of exotic species of animals including the Royal Bengal Tigers. Besides this, jungle cat, honey badger, rhesus macaque, Javan mongoose, sambar, nilgai, crested serpent eagle, Hanuman langur, sandgrouse, Indian peafowl, and a lot more birds and animals are found inside Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary.  

Tigers at Sariska National Park

The Royal Bengal Tigers are the main attraction of Sariska National Park. In the year 2018, there were a total of 18 tigers inside the sanctuary out of which 5 were reported to be cubs. It has been given the status of the first sanctuary in the world to have successfully relocated the tigers.  

Jeep Safari at Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary

Sariska jeep safari takes place twice a day, once in the morning and other in the afternoon. The morning slot timings are 06:00 am to 09:00 am and afternoon slot timings are 03:00 pm to 06:00 pm.
