One of the most famous attractions of the city, the Junagarh Fort in Bikaner is a massive fort right in the heart of the city. Earlier referred to as Chintamani, the  Junagarh Fort was renamed in the 20th century. The new parts of the city was built around this fort, nearly 1.5 kms away from the city center. The fort is home to several temples, pavilions and palaces, covering an area of 5.28 hectares. The major temples inside the fort include the Ratan Behari Temple and the Har Mandir Temple. The palaces inside the fort include Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Ganga Mahal, Phool Mahal, Badal Mahal and Chandra Mahal. There are also a few Bikaneri Havelies within as well as outside the fort, which are worth a look. The famed Junagarh Fort Museum is also a must visit when here, to take a look at the history of the city.

It is a top favorite among historians and architectural enthusiasts, due to its mix of architectural styles and the use of beautiful red sandstone. The location of Junagarh Fort is another major attractant for tourists, since it rests on the arid Thar Desert, bordered by the Aravalli Mountain Range in the background. Make sure to visit this place at least once when here.
