Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, Moscow (Russia)

Gorky Park in Moscow is named after famous Soviet political activist, writer and founder of the Socialist Realism literary method, Alexei Maximovich Peshkov aka Maxim Gorky.

In August 2018, the park completed its 90th anniversary and is now only a decade away from its centenary celebrations. Given the importance of Gorky Park in the community circle of Moscow, one can easily assume how grand those celebrations must be.

History Of Gorky Park

Gorky Park was first opened in 1928, combining the gardens of the old Golitsyn Hospital and Neskuchny Palace, spreading over a sprawling 300 acres along Moskva River. Before that, the gardens used to be the property of the estate owners and then turned into a massive wasteland. For the First All-Russian Agricultural and Handicraft Industries Exhibition in 1923, it was cleared up, and then in the next five years, it turned into the Gorky Central Park for the leisure of the people of Moscow.

Attractions Of Gorky Park

Earlier, Gorky Park in Moscow, Russia had multiple amusement rides and other attractions, but they were becoming obsolete day by day. In 2011, the park underwent large-scale, extensive transformations. A separate section was created only for the children, which has roller coasters and other fun-filled rides. For adults, there are options like bungee jumping, tennis courts, cycling tracks, or they can also hire boats and horses for a trip. Another part of the park has some vintage attractions like old woodlands and abandoned buildings. In this part, there is an enormous Green Theatre – an outdoor amphitheater that frequently hosts concerts and gigs during summers. During winters, the place turns into a magical land of ice and snow. Gorky Park ice skating, complete with disco lights and music is one of the best attractions in Moscow during the chilly months. Overall, Gorky Park serves as an open community center not only for local Muscovites but tourists as well.

Gorky Park in Moscow is spread over 300 acres.

Gorky Park is named after the famous Soviet Russian writer-activist and communist, Maxim Gorky.

Gorky Park is famous for many things, not many of them are essentially flowery. For Muscovites, their city's biggest green space used to be known as a place of regimented Soviet-era fun, full of strolling proletarian families eating cheap ice cream to the sound of military bands. Present day, this place is for people to chill, have cheap liquor and overpriced kebabs while listening to music.
