The most significant element in the history of the Church of the Savior on Blood is that its construction was done on the same spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded in 1881 in an assasination attempt. With the 17th century style Russian architecture, Alfred Parland provided it one of the marvelous structures in contrast to other classical and modern architectures. This church was built immediately post the death of Alexander II by his son Alexander III. The church got closed in year 1932, and received some damage from World War 2 also. Post numerous deterioration and restoration over the decades, it finally opened in August 1997 for public.
