The Esplanade theatres on the bay Singapore are a performing arts center and considered to be one of the best ones located in Downtown core near the mouth of the Singapore River. As per the belief, the theatre was named after the Esplanade Park which is located just nearby it. The Esplanade theatres on the Bay is having a capacity of around 2000 for the performing arts and has a concert hall with about 1600 seats. The theatres were officially started to be constructed on the 11th of August, 1996 by the then Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Tony Tang. Formerly there was a Satay Club at its place which was later relocated. The Esplanade Theatres on the bay was finally constructed with a cost of around $600 million and was opened on the 2nd of October 2002. The center was inaugurated by the President of Singapore on the 12th of October 2002. The shows conducted in Esplanade Theatres in Sentosa try to spread and exchange culture, traditions, and values.
The Esplanade Theatres on the Bay Singapore also has meeting venues along with lifestyle and related services in addition to concert hall and theatre. The concert hall is the main center that serves for the concerts, recitals and other such performances. The theatre is an adaptation of the horseshoe form of a traditional European opera house. There is also a recital studio which has been designed in the shape of a fan and contains nearly 245 people for small scale performances, presentations, and meetings. Events and Concerts in Esplanade Theaters: There are many concerts and events held in the field of music, dance, theatre, film, and visual arts. There are music performances by Yvette Atienza, an iconic singer who is an expert in vocal jazz, Sean Hong Wei pays tribute to Dexter Gordon. A lyrical performance by Spiral Group, classical guitar concert by Duo SF & Ekachai Jearakul, and Indie pop and dance-rock by Dreebsby group. Famous theatre events are The Classroom, The Block Party, Stories to Celebrate, and A Ladder to the Stars. Popular dance events in Esplanade Theaters are In Your Shadow, Silvery Moonlight, Introduction to Swan Lake, Acosta Danza, and Grand Finale. In All Directions, Big Time, Strange Unicorns and Sensory Anchors are famous visual arts events.
