About Sri Mariamman Temple in Singapore

The oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, Sri Mariamman Temple was built back in the year 1827 by Naraina Pilai. The temple is commonly referred to as Mariamman Kovil. Showcasing a very vivid style of Dravidian architecture, the temple also happens to be the country’s most-visited temples because of its religious significance, lively exteriors and its amazing architecture. Dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, the goddess believed to be the one to bless the devotees with the cure of epidemic illnesses and diseases.

The gate of the temple or gopuram, decorated with sculptures of Gods, Goddesses and mythological beasts is a sight to behold. As a result of its architectural and historical importance, Sri Mariamman temple Singapore has been included as a National Monument on the 6th of July, 1973. There are also other free-standing shrines with decorated dome roofs belonging to Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. Draupadi’s shrine is the second most shrine in the Sri Mariamman temple to the left of which reside the Pandavas presided over by Lord Krishna. The free-standing flagpole is another important aspect of the temple. On every major festival or ritual ceremonies, a flag is raised here on this flag pole. Do visit the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Singapore whenever you get a chance to be here and feel graced with its divinity and spiritual ambience.

    The expected support wasn’t not there, two times the team wasn’t able to provide the tickets for the spots (observatory deck for sky garden and universal studio). In the entrance we need to wait for half an hour and they were asking the silly questions like sir how many adults and kids are there of
    how much age (as they only have done the tickets so asking these type of questions is a stupidity). Moreover in the initial stage of trip itself we informed that as we are with kids and infant so we may find delay in picking up the taxi but they haven’t taken into consideration, which causes us to pay amount of 40 SGD as we were not able to pick the taxi on time (delay of just 15 mins). When we have informed to travel triangle representative (Bhawana) then she took time to understand the situation from their sub agent and after that she started talking in the way as if we only have did a mistake. So the overall experience wasn’t good at all. We only created by ourselves, as such nothing from the travel triangle to make it memorable!

    No, there is no such thing. Though the deities and sculptures inside the temple belong to Hindu Gods but the gates of the temple are open for people belonging to all religions.

    Though the temple has shrines of many Hindu Gods and Goddesses, the main shrine belongs to Goddess Mariamman. After this comes the shrine of Draupadi in essence.
