Rated 4.30/5 ( based on 105 reviews )
Boulders Beach Tour, Cape Town (South Africa)
Cape Town is a city surrounded by beautiful and exciting beaches, and one of the most interesting ones is Boulders Beach. It is a sheltered coast comprising of inlets between granite boulders, which gave the beach its name. Located near Simon’s Town, the main attraction here are the Boulders Beach penguins. But other than that, there are options like kayaking, shark expeditions and more to indulge near Boulders Beach, Cape Town.
Attractions of Boulders Beach
It is surprising to find penguins, who we know to be Antarctic creatures, over here in a hot beach of South Africa. But these animals are endemic to the South African and Namibian coastlines and have been breeding here for over a century. The Penguins first came to the shore of False Bay from Dyer Island near Gaansbai in the last century, and there were plenty of them. But because of commercial activities and marine pollution, by 1982, only two breeding pairs remained. Conservation efforts were made from the authorities and now you can see over 3000 birds fluttering and braying around the Boulders Bay Beach.
Boulders Beach Tour
Boulders Beach tour is ideal for a day of camping and picnicking. To get a much better view of the penguins, take the dune-covered walkway around the Foxy Beach, where there are chances of more up-close encounters with the animals. Right above the high water mark on the beach, there are a number of minuscule bays, enclosed by granite boulders which are more than 540 million years old. Here one can get the most unique experience of Boulders Beach to swim with penguins. Kayaking, boating and shark diving are some other cool experiences one can have at other locations near Boulders Beach, Cape Town, South Africa. In the beach itself, no vehicles are allowed.
Things to Do in Boulders Beach
Boulders Beach is a very beautiful and tranquil beach famous for its rounded and dramatic boulders, turquoise water, and a large number of African penguins. The beach is also a good option to enjoy sunbathing as the round boulders serve as a barrier to protect from wind and strong waves which makes it possible for the visitors to lay down and relax while being soaked in the sun. The beach has three boardwalks from where one can enjoy birdwatching. There is also a separate penguin viewing area from where one can watch penguins playing, swimming and feeding their young ones.
