About Cape Town Attractions

Located at the far south-west of South Africa, Cape Town is home to the country’s Parliament and thus the legislative capital of South Africa. Set up by the Dutch East India Company shortly after their arrival at the coast, the city of Cape Town is the oldest urban area in the country, and was toppled by Johannesburg from the position of the ‘largest’ by Johannesburg after its rise. Located by the Atlantic-washed shore of Table Bay, Cape Town is where people flock to in SA when they want to enjoy a beach vacation as well as a rewarding glimpse of authentic South African wilderness together, because the city offers both in abundance.

Beaches of Cape Town

One of the main reasons to visit Cape Town is its beautiful beaches. The Clifton Beaches are the most popular ones here for sunbathing and swimming, while at Boulder Beach you can have the unique experience of catching African penguins at their play. Do visit Muizenberg Beach for the cute and colourful Victorian bath boxes, and it also happens to be a Blue Flag Beach and so are Hawston and Grotto Beach, meaning ecologically conscious. For more youthful places, opt for Camps Bay Beach or Bikini Beach.

Wildlife of Cape Town

Who needs Narnia when there is Cape Town tourism in the real world? Right within the urban premises of the city, you will find a bunch of unique wild animals which will just make your day. Be it the sunbathing, furry brown Dassies of Table Mountain, or the Zebra-like Quaggas near M3, the friendly Cape Fur Seals in the harbours of Kalk or Hout Bay or the adorable African penguins at the Boulder Beach – these animals will make you feel like you are sitting right inside a Discovery Channel Show. There are official places to interact with animals as well, like Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, Cango Wildlife Ranch, Brenton Blue Butterfly Reserve or Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre.

Here are some of the best attractions which you should visit on your trip to Cape Town.

1. Table Mountain

The most important landmark of Cape Town travel is the Table Mountain, lying inside the National Park of the same name. A trek up to the flat table-like summit of the mountain takes around 2-4 hours depending on the route you choose. There are cable car facilities for those who want to save time and energy. The view of the national park, Cape Town and the entire Cape Peninsula from the top is the most spectacular view of the trip.

2. Robben Island

Robben Island off the Table Bay used to be a notorious prison for over 400 years, and during the infamous Apartheid era, it held Nelson Mandela before he went on to reform the country. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historic location, adorned with attractions like the Nelson Mandela Gateway and Museum, and the former cell of his where he spent 18 long years.

3. Town Hall and Castle of Good Hope

The Town Hall is a towering Neo-Renaissance and colonial style mix building, with a 60ft high bell tower modelled after London’s Bell Tower. It overlooks the Grand Parade where Nelson Mandela made his famous speech in 1990. Across the Parade, the Castle of Good Hope stands as the oldest surviving building of South Africa, built in 1666-79 for the Dutch Governors.

4. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens

Located on the eastern slope of the Table Mountain, this beautiful location is home to over 20,000 native African floras. Do not miss the proteas, cycads, the Tree Canopy Walk and the Sculpture Garden.

5. Signal Hill and the Noon Gun

Signal Hill along the slopes of Lion’s Head Peak is where tourists and Cape Town people gather for stunning sunsets and picturesque views of Cape Town, Table Bay and the Atlantic Beyond. This summit was earlier used as a signalling platform for harbour-bound ships and the Noon Gun was used to let the sailors know the noon time.

    • Trip to South Africa

We had seen their earlier reviews and booked M K Holidays through travel triangle for our honeymoon tour to south africa. They have arranged it extremely well. Every promises have been catered to. All the guides (they were drivers too) were extremely knowledgeable and experienced. They were polite, punctual and reliable. The itinerary was very well structured. We covered most of the places and things to do, leaving a few, because of weather conditions. The cars arranged for us were very well maintained. Overall, we were absolutely satisfied and looking forward to our next interaction. One very small thing was, few information regarding our tour was delayed till the last moment. Although everything was perfectly arranged, but sharing the information well ahead in time would save us from the anxiety before our travel. The Bamboos (Guest House) was booked for us for three days stay at Knysna. However, you cannot expect a 4 star comfort at Bamboos like the other hotels but it has a different taste of its own with a homely peaceful atmosphere with a well equipped kitchen inside the room. However, we personally enjoyed this different stay at The Bamboos at Knysna.

While I found manoj ji a very nice and always accomodating person, I was not at all impressed by his management. Here is my pros and cons Pros: 1. Very well versed with the SA market 2. Provided very nice recommendations 3. Definitely will give a good price Cons 1. His management is not good 2. You have to chase him for getting the things done despite regular calling 3. He will forget to get the booking done- our hotel was not booked until the day we reached there. This really pissed me off

    • Trip to South Africa

Place was no doubt an awesome destination. But, I really faced many issues during trip on booking fronts. Here are the details: 1. Despite having private transfers, the cab was not booked from Jburg hotel to airport. I reached airport on the very last minutes. 2. All the tour bookings for a particular day in kynsna was booked for the next day as compared to itinerary. I had to follow up 2 times. Thanks to the booking counters they allowed me on a previous day. (Cango Caves, Wildlike ranch, Ostrish Farm) 3. John benn Sunset cruise was booked on a day at 6:00 PM. I reached there at 5:50 PM and booking counters were closed and got to know later that we had to reach there 30 minutes before. No such information was imparted to us. After asking, to compensate, a same level cruise was booked in cape town at 3 PM. I reached there an hour ago and then got to know that it's booked for 4 PM and the same information was passed on to the vendor by the but nobody took a pain to inform me. I didn't wait for that for 2 hours and purchased tickets for 3 PM and those are also not yet reimbursed; provided that booking counters have reimbursed the already booked cruise tickets to the local vendor. After all this, I really can't think of recommending these vendors to anyone. It was a honeymoon tour and not even a single day passed away when I don't have to follow up for the things.

    • Trip to Sri Lanka

My sister and I had the most fantastic holiday on your beautiful island. Cecil and our driver Priyankara were so hospitable. They are obviously very proud of Sri Lanka and so they should be. We fell in love with the warm, friendly people, beautiful climate, delicious food, culture, history and scenery of the country. Expect more travellers from South Africa as we have told all our family and friends of our wonderful holiday. We have been to many countries, but nothing can compare to Sri Lanka and Queenki Tours. Cecil went out of his way to ensure that all our expectations were met; in fact our expectations were exceeded. Spotting of 3 leopards in Yala National Park; Train ride to Ella; Elephant ride; hospitality of Sri Lankan people.
