About Glen Falls in Nuwara Eliya

Glen Falls originate from the northern side of Single Tree Hill in Nuwara Eliya which is located at an altitude of 2,070 m. It is the second largest waterfall in Nuwara Eliya. It is situated at a walking distance from the city centre. The perennial waterfall cascades down rocks from a towering height of 60-70 m. The perennial falls turned into a seasonal waterfall after it dried up excessively in the early 1990s. The falls are surrounded by a bevy of famous tourist attractions of Nuwara Eliya that are thronged by travelers all around the year. If you visit Glen Falls, make sure to stop by the stunning Windy Corner falls and Galwala Ella falls. It is situated at a distance of 2.17 km and 2.61 km from Glen falls respectively. The Glen Falls waterfall has over the years added to the boost in tourism in Nuwara Eliya. It accentuates the scenic beauty of the region. It comes as no surprise that the waterfall is synonymous with the city. Multiple hotels, like Glenfall Resort, and roads are named after it. The official residence of Governor Edward Barnes used to be located in the vicinity of the fall. It also used to serve as a retreat for the planters of Nuwara Eliya who cultivated tea in the nearby hills. It attracts a bevy of tourists and locals for reasons listed below.

Things to Do at Glen Falls

Glen Falls is one of the city’s most well-visited and well-known waterfalls. The trail to the waterfall offers several opportunities for hiking. You can hike in the forested region with a group of friends or with a guided tour. There’s a trail that runs along the fall too. There are also many shaded regions at the waterfall’s edge where you can have a little picnic. You can take a dip in the falls and cool off after the strenuous hike to Glen Falls. Then, you may hog on snacks with your friends to treat yourself for finishing the hike. If you want to get in a quick workout, you can also take your mountain bike and bike to the falls. Clearly, there are a range of things you can pursue here.

Srilanka is really a good place to visit. We booked the package through Travco Adventures. It was really a pleasant say. The package was also budget friendly compared to other agencies. The rooms were really good. In one of the places we stayed, our room was allocated nearby the river, we had a real

good view. Food was also good in all the places we stayed. A private car was provided to us and it was spacious. However, there are also few cons. 1) Guides will be mostly working with them on contract basis. It's not like they are aware of the full itinerary with respect to places and will be taking us there. We might have to be proactive and tell them these are the places we want to visit, and ensure all the places mentioned in the list is covered. 2) We were told that we would be provided with free sim upon arrival to Srilanka, but the assigned driver was not aware of it, and this lead to a bit of confusion and a delay of around an hour. It would have been good, if all these had been communicated prior. But apart from these, the assigned guide Mr. Thushar Kumar was also really good and was sportive. He was really a kind person and it was nice to chit-chat with him during the journey. He ensured we had a good, relaxing, value for money trip.
