Situated next to Nuwara Eliya Post Office, the lush green Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya is a great place to spend a lovely evening in the city. Victoria Park Nuwara Eliya was officially named so in 1897 as it commemorated Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Once it was used by Hakgala Botanical Garden as its research field, but today it is a well manicured public lawn. The park has Nanu Oya river running through it which adds on to this well maintained and beautiful public park in Sri Lanka. Open all the year round, the park sprawls over an area of around 27 acres.
Things to do at Victoria Park Nuwara Eliya
This lush green park is a great place to relax and unwind during a Sri Lankan trip. There are a lot of small lakes in this huge park which adds on to the beauty of this place and one can enjoy picnicking by the lake with their family and folks at the park. Victoria Park makes for a great place for morning walks and evening strolls amidst nature. If you are a nature enthusiast, then visit the park during the months of March to May and August to September as these are the months when the park is in full bloom and one can enjoy the beauty of the flowers here. The park also makes for a great place for birdwatchers and one can spot quite a variety here. Kashmir flycatcher and Indian pitta are some of the species that one can spot in Victoria Park.
One can spot a lot of locals here along with tourists. Other than being a space to relax and unwind, it is also an attraction with kids. If one is traveling with kids, then they can surely make a stop here as the Victoria Park has a miniature playground and a miniature version of a rideable railway for the children to enjoy.
There are a lot of attractions too, close to the park for one to explore. Some of these attractions that one can visit are Pedro Tea Factory, Lover's Leap Waterfall, Glen Falls, Single Tree Hills, Moon Plains, and more.
