Horton Plains National Park is located on the southern part of the central region of Sri Lanka. Spreading across over 3,169 hectares of the top area of the island, Horton Plains is located at an altitude of 2,100 meters above the level of the sea, between the regions of Kirigalpotta and Totapola.
Horton Plains National Park is a declared UNESCO World Heritage site, which was declared the same, in 2010, in the view of a large number of endemic flora and fauna species. It consists of ecosystems such as mountain green forests, marshy lands, green grasslands, and aquatic ecosystems.

You will find several waterfalls, rocky hills, lakes, and gorgeous views of the ocean in this part of the country here at Horton Plains National Park, Sri Lanka.
The ‘plains’ join together to create a plateau of rises and falls over 2000m high, which are covered by wild grasslands and interspersed with certain specific patches of filigree waterfalls, thick forest, misty lakes and rocky outcrops. The plateau’s sharp end is also known as ‘World’s End’, a massive near 880m drop.
The climate of Horton Plain National Park in Sri Lanka is that of wet montane forests. The average temperature is 14-16 degrees celsius while humidity is relatively low at 65%, as per the annual record. While annual rainfall of highlands is 2540mm, Horton Plain National Park record 5000mm rainfall annually. During the dry season, the temperature falls down to 5-degree centigrade.
The fauna of the region includes 24 species of mammals, 87 species of birds, 9 species of reptiles, 15 species of amphibians and 2 species of fishes.
