Best Time To Visit Pattaya

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Pattaya is November to February, the cool, dry season, when the Gulf of Thailand is calm, humidity drops and daytime highs hold around a comfortable 31 to 32 degrees. Pattaya sits on Thailand's east Gulf coast, about two hours south of Bangkok, and it runs on three broad seasons rather than four. Below you get every month at a glance, the 2026 festival calendar, the right window for the beach, nightlife and Coral Island, and, if you are flying from India, how the seasons line up with airfares and school holidays.

Pattaya Trip Snapshot

What our travellers actually book for Pattaya, based on TravelTriangle trip data.

Metric What the data shows
Most-booked travel months November to February (peak)
Average trip length 4 to 6 nights, usually paired with Bangkok
Most popular pairing Bangkok + Pattaya
Cheapest booking window May to September (green season)

Best Time to Visit Pattaya: At a Glance

Pattaya has three seasons: a cool, dry peak from November to February, a hot shoulder from March to May, and a green rainy season from about June to October. Here is how they compare before we go month by month. The sea itself stays warm all year, roughly 27 degrees in January to about 31 degrees in May.

Season Months Daytime high Sea and crowds Verdict
Cool and dry (peak) Nov to Feb 31 to 32 C Calm gulf; busiest; highest prices Best overall. Book early.
Hot (shoulder) Mar to May 33 to 34 C Warm sea, rising humidity, thinning crowds Good value. April is hottest; Songkran.
Rainy (green) Jun to Oct 31 to 33 C Short heavy showers, fewest crowds, lowest prices Cheapest. Sep wettest; mornings often clear.

So when should you go? For dry skies, calm water and every boat tour running, aim for November to February and reserve hotels well ahead. Want the same warmth for less? Late October and early March sit on the shoulder, drier than peak monsoon but noticeably cheaper. On a tight budget, or after quiet, green beaches? June to September brings the lowest fares, and because Pattaya faces the sheltered Gulf rather than the open Andaman Sea, its rain tends to fall in short afternoon bursts while mornings stay clear enough to sightsee.

Pattaya Weather Month by Month

This is the table to bookmark, and the one every ranking guide is missing more than half of. Temperatures are daytime highs; rainfall is the monthly average with typical rainy days in brackets. The Gulf stays swimmable all year, so 'sea' below refers to how calm the water and boat crossings are.

Month Season Avg high Rain (rainy days) Sea Crowd / price Verdict
January Cool and dry 31 C 12 mm (2) Calm, clear Very high / high Peak, dry start
February Cool and dry 32 C 20 mm (2) Calm, clear Very high / high Dry, ideal
March Hot 33 C 36 mm (3) Calm, warming High / medium Great, heat builds
April Hot 34 C 75 mm (6) Warm, calm Medium / medium Hottest; Songkran
May Hot, rain onset 33 C 165 mm (14) Warmest, ~31 C Low-med / low Rain begins, warm sea
June Rainy (green) 32 C 130 mm (13) Calm between showers Low / lowest Showers, bargains
July Rainy (green) 32 C 120 mm (13) Calm between showers Low-med / low Brief lull, good deals
August Rainy (green) 32 C 135 mm (14) Calm between showers Low-med / low Wet, green, cheap
September Rainy (green) 32 C 229 mm (19) Choppier at times Lowest / lowest Wettest month
October Rain tapering 31 C 200 mm (17) Easing late month Low / low Rain eases late
November Cool and dry starts 31 C 45 mm (5) Settling, calm Rising / rising Seas settle; Loy Krathong
December Cool and dry 31 C 12 mm (2) Calm, clear Very high / peak Peak, driest, festive

Best Time for the Beach, Nightlife, Islands and Budget

The right month depends on what you came to do. Here is when each side of Pattaya is at its best.

Coral Island and island hopping. The gulf is calmest and clearest November to April, the window for a full day on Coral Island (Koh Larn) and the smaller snorkelling islands off Bali Hai Pier. Crossings still run through the rainy months, but keep the plan flexible on a wet afternoon.

Beaches and swimming. For easy swimming and watersports, November to May is ideal, when the sea is warm and settled. Jomtien Beach stays the calmer, more relaxed choice year-round.

Nightlife. Pattaya's bars, clubs and cabarets run every night of the year, but the dry, rain-free evenings of November to February on Walking Street are the liveliest, and the best window if nightlife is the point of your trip.

Rainy-day and hot-day picks. Hot April afternoons suit the water parks like Ramayana; wet green-season afternoons are made for the indoor 3D museum Art in Paradise, the aquarium, or the vast Nong Nooch garden. See our full list of places to visit in Pattaya to slot these around the weather.

Budget and quiet. The cheapest month-for-money is squarely in the green season, June to September, when both hotel rates and airfares from India bottom out. You trade some afternoon rain for the emptiest beaches and the biggest savings.

Pattaya Festivals and Events Calendar 2026

Timing a trip around a festival adds colour, and Pattaya throws some of the loudest in Thailand. Dates below are for 2026; confirm before you lock flights, as several follow the lunar calendar.

Festival / event 2026 dates Season What to expect
Chinese New Year 17 February Peak Lanterns, dragon dances and firecrackers in the Thai-Chinese quarter
Pattaya International Music Festival Mid-March Hot Free live concerts along Beach Road and Bali Hai
Songkran and Pattaya Wan Lai Songkran 13 to 15 April; Wan Lai approx 18 to 19 April Hot Nationwide water fights; Pattaya extends it with the Wan Lai street festival
Loy Krathong Approx 24 November Cool and dry Candle-lit krathongs floated on the bay and lakes
Pattaya International Fireworks Festival Late November Cool and dry Two nights of competing international fireworks over the bay
Christmas and New Year Late December Peak Festive markets, beach countdown parties and fireworks

Best Time to Visit Pattaya from India

Most guides are written for a global reader. If you are booking from India, the calendar looks a little different, because your airfares and holidays follow their own rhythm.

Getting there. Pattaya has no international airport of its own for Indian flyers; you fly into Bangkok, roughly a 4 to 4.5 hour hop from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata, then drive about two hours south. Our how to reach Pattaya guide covers airports, buses and taxis in detail.

Airfares by season. Fares from India peak with Pattaya's high season and the Indian festive break: December and January are the most expensive months to fly. The cheapest seats land in the monsoon, roughly May to September, when Pattaya hotels also drop to their lowest rates. If your dates are flexible, a green-season trip can cost noticeably less for the same city.

Mapped to Indian holidays. Diwali, in late October or November, falls as the rain eases and the seas settle, and it lines up with Loy Krathong, a genuine sweet spot for value and weather. The Christmas and New Year break lands in peak season, glorious but priciest, so book early. The April to June summer school holidays coincide with Pattaya's hottest weeks and Songkran, fun with kids who love the water fights, but hot.

Bangkok and Pattaya together. Since you route through Bangkok anyway, most Indian trips pair the two, and November to February suits both cities at once. Browse Bangkok Pattaya tour packages to plan the combination, or the wider range of Thailand tour packages.

Travelling with family. For families with children, November to February is the easiest choice: calm seas, every attraction open, and lower humidity. It is also the safest, most comfortable swimming window, which matters most with young kids.

What to Pack by Season

Cool, dry season (Nov to Feb): light cottons for the day, one layer for breezy December evenings, reef-safe sunscreen, swimwear, a hat and good sunglasses.

Hot season (Mar to May): the lightest, most breathable clothes you own, a refillable water bottle, high-SPF sunscreen and a waterproof phone pouch for the Songkran soaking.

Rainy season (Jun to Oct): a packable rain jacket, quick-dry clothing, sandals with grip for wet paths, and a power bank, since connectivity can dip in heavy rain.

"Book the Coral Island speedboat for a November-to-February morning and the gulf is glass. Even in September we still run Pattaya trips, we just take the island in the clear early hours and keep the wet afternoon for Art in Paradise or the Sanctuary of Truth," says the TravelTriangle Thailand desk.

Climate in Pattaya

Summer Season in Pattaya

From March the mercury climbs, peaking in April at around 34 degrees with heavy humidity. The sea is still calm and at its warmest, so beaches and boat trips work well, and prices ease from their December peak. Come prepared for strong midday sun. April also brings Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, which Pattaya stretches into its own multi-day Wan Lai celebration, so plan to either join the water fights or route around them. This is the value sweet spot if you can take the heat.

Monsoon Season in Pattaya

The southwest monsoon brings the rain, and with it the lowest prices of the year. Highs ease to a humid 31 to 33 degrees, downpours are usually heavy but short, and the countryside turns lush. September is the wettest month. The good news for Pattaya specifically: it sits on the sheltered Gulf coast, not the exposed Andaman side like Phuket, so the sea rarely turns dangerous and afternoon showers are the main disruption, not cancelled crossings. Sightsee in the clearer mornings, keep an indoor pick like Art in Paradise or the aquarium in reserve for a wet afternoon, and you get a genuinely underrated, cheap, quiet Pattaya.

Winter Season in Pattaya

This is the window most travellers picture. Days are dry and sunny, humidity eases, and highs sit in the pleasant 31 to 32 degree range, with December and January the coolest. The Gulf turns glassy, so swimming, the Coral Island ferries and every watersport run without a hitch. The trade-off is company and cost: this is the busiest, priciest stretch of the year, and the Christmas and New Year fortnight sells out first. Book flights and hotels several weeks ahead. Loy Krathong in late November and the Pattaya Fireworks Festival make the shoulder of this season especially lively.

Hey Travel Trail, Dear Yugal I hope this review finds you in high spirits! I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude for organizing the most incredible trip to Thailand. From start to finish, every aspect of the journey was meticulously planned, and I couldn't have asked for a bett
er experience. First and foremost, the hotel you recommended was an absolute gem! The Golden Tulip was a true oasis in the heart of Thailand. The check-in process was seamless. The accommodation itself was beyond my expectations.I really love the swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. Beyond the hotel, the itinerary you crafted for us was diverse and captivating. From exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok to immersing myself in the natural wonders of Phuket, every destination left an indelible mark on my heart. I will undoubtedly recommend your travel agency to my friends, family, and colleagues who are seeking an extraordinary travel experience. Your attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to customer satisfaction are truly commendable. Once again, thank you for making my Thailand trip so special. Yugal was our travel agent. He was always available from the day we booked the trip till we completed our trip. He was always a call away and was helpful to resolve all the queries. His commitment was commendable. We took 4 night 5 days package. The hotels we stayed were fortunately good. Cab serv
ices were not as much cooperative as expected. I would suggest to include most imp tourist spots of bangkok/pattaya in basic package itself. Like we had a bangkok city tour in our package but reclining budha/watarun temple was not part of it. Better to have it included in basic packages which would improve customer satisfaction. But overall it was a good and hustle free experience.

    Pattaya Travel FAQs

What is the best time to visit Pattaya?

November to February is the best time to visit Pattaya. It is the cool, dry season, with calm gulf water, lower humidity and comfortable highs around 31 to 32 degrees. It is also the busiest and priciest window, so book flights and hotels ahead, especially over Christmas and New Year.

Which is the cheapest month to visit Pattaya?

The cheapest months are in the green rainy season, roughly June to September, when both Pattaya hotel rates and airfares from India bottom out. September is the wettest, but showers are usually short afternoon bursts and mornings stay clear enough to sightsee, so a monsoon trip can be excellent value.

Is Pattaya worth visiting in the monsoon or rainy season?

Yes. Because Pattaya sits on the sheltered Gulf coast rather than the open Andaman side, the sea rarely turns dangerous and rain tends to fall in short bursts rather than all-day washouts. You get the lowest prices, the emptiest beaches and lush green scenery. Sightsee in the mornings and keep an indoor option like the aquarium or Art in Paradise for a wet afternoon.

What is the sea or water temperature in Pattaya?

The sea off Pattaya is warm and swimmable all year. It runs from around 27 degrees at its coolest in December and January to about 31 degrees at its warmest in May, so water temperature is never a reason to pick one month over another. The bigger seasonal difference is how calm the water is for boat trips to Coral Island.

When is Songkran in Pattaya in 2026?

Songkran, the Thai New Year, runs 13 to 15 April 2026 nationwide. Pattaya then extends the celebration with its own Wan Lai festival around 18 to 19 April, with more water fights, parades and beach events. Expect to get soaked anywhere near Beach Road and Naklua during this stretch, so pack a waterproof phone pouch.

What is the best time for Pattaya nightlife and Walking Street?

Pattaya's nightlife runs every night of the year, but the dry, rain-free evenings from November to February are the liveliest and most comfortable for a night out on Walking Street. If nightlife is the main reason for your trip, aim for this cool-season window and you will not lose an evening to the rain.

When should Indian travellers visit Pattaya?

For most Indian travellers, November to February gives the best weather, though airfares peak then with the festive break. Diwali in late October or November is a value sweet spot, as the rain eases and it lines up with Loy Krathong. Since you fly via Bangkok anyway, the cool season also suits pairing both cities in one trip.

What is the hottest month in Pattaya?

April is the hottest month, with daytime highs around 34 degrees and heavy humidity. It is also Songkran month, so the citywide water fights are a welcome way to cool down. If you are sensitive to heat, favour December to February or the tail of the rainy season in late October instead.

When is the best time to visit Coral Island (Koh Larn)?

November to April is the best time for Coral Island, when the gulf is calm and clear for the ferry or speedboat from Bali Hai Pier and for snorkelling and watersports. You can still visit in the rainy season, but go on a clear morning and keep the plan flexible in case an afternoon squall builds.

Is Pattaya or Phuket better in the monsoon?

In the monsoon, Pattaya is often the easier choice. It sits on the calmer Gulf of Thailand, so its sea stays swimmable and boat trips are less likely to be cancelled than on Phuket's exposed Andaman coast, and its rain falls in shorter bursts. For an Indian traveller routing through Bangkok, a rainy-season Bangkok and Pattaya trip is a reliable, good-value pick.
