What Your Andaman Package Covers: Islands, Beaches & Experiences

Most itineraries are built around three island bases, plus a couple of day trips. You can add or drop any of these when you customize.

• Port Blair — officially Sri Vijaya Puram (your arrival base). Cellular Jail with its evening light-and-sound show, and Corbyn's Cove Beach for jet-ski and banana-boat rides. Day boats run to Ross Island (Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island) and its colonial ruins, North Bay Island for glass-bottom boats and snorkelling, and Viper Island's gallows-era ruins. Longer trips add Chidiya Tapu's sunset point and Mount Harriet National Park.

How to Choose the Right Andaman Package

Themes cover who you are travelling with. Three more things decide which package actually fits: your budget, how long you have, and when you are going.

• By budget. Under about INR 14,000 per person keeps you in 3-star stays with shared transfers across Port Blair and Havelock. INR 14,000 to 24,000 adds Neil Island, private transfers and a 4-star night or two. INR 24,000+ buys sea-facing resorts and honeymoon extras.

• By duration. Five nights is the sweet spot for Port Blair and Havelock: Cellular Jail, Radhanagar Beach, an Elephant Beach snorkelling trip and a scuba day. Six or seven nights adds Neil Island's natural bridge or a Baratang day trip. Under four nights and too much of it goes on ferries.

• By season. October to May is peak, with calm seas, clear water and reliable ferries; book early for December and January. How to Book Inter-Island Ferries in Andaman

The one thing first-time visitors get wrong is inter-island ferries. There is no bridge or flight between the islands, so you reach Havelock and Neil from Port Blair by boat, and in peak season the good sailings sell out days ahead. Here is how it actually works.

• Private ferries (Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean) are air-conditioned and take about 1.5 to 2 hours from Port Blair to Havelock. Fares run roughly INR 1,000 to 1,600 per person each way. Book these 1 to 3 weeks ahead for October to January travel.

• Government ferries are cheaper, a few hundred rupees, but release seats late and mean a counter queue. Fine off-season, risky at peak.

• Every sailing is weather-dependent. Rough monsoon seas can cancel a crossing at short notice, so keep a buffer day before your return flight and take earlier boats over the last one of the day.

How to reach. Most travellers fly into Port Blair (Veer Savarkar International Airport) from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi or Bengaluru, then island-hop by ferry to Havelock and Neil. The package fares above exclude these flights.

Permits & documents. Indian nationals do not need a permit for the main tourist islands, Port Blair, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep), but must carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport or voter ID) for hotel check-in and ferry boarding. Foreign nationals are issued a free Restricted Area Permit (RAP) on arrival at Port Blair airport, valid 30 days for the main islands. A few areas, such as Baratang's tribal-reserve stretch, need a separate day permit that your package agent arranges. The Nicobar group is not open to tourists. What to Pack for Andaman

Pack for beaches and boats more than for a city. In peak season (October to May) you will live in light cottons and swimwear. Through the monsoon, add a quick-dry layer and a compact rain shell for ferry crossings.
