How to Reach Mauritius
Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers
By Air
There are only two airports in Mauritius, Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport situated in Plaine Corail on Rodrigues and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Those wondering how to reach Mauritius from Delhi or Mumbai, then we are here to inform that SSR Airport is well connected via domestic and international flights. Emirates, Swiss, China Eastern flights, Air India, etc. are some of the major international airlines with connectivity to these airports.
By Road
To enjoy the road journey, one can reach the SSR Airport and take a bus to their desired destination. Buses available from the airport are 09, 10, and 198. Land transport here includes bus, taxi and cars. The bus network is large in the country, spread across the entire island. There are 2 kinds of buses in Mauritius: standard and express. Express buses are air conditioned buses and have fewer stops on each route. The buses run between 5:30 am and 8 pm. On the countryside, which is less developed, timings are shorter and less reliable. Travelers may have to change a bus in order to reach their destination.
Taxi is also easily available on the island but are more expensive. One can take any of the two buses. Fare of express bus is a bit higher as it is air conditioned and faster than the standard bus.
By Sea
Besides boarding a flight or bus, one can also hop on a cruise to reach Mauritius. Board a cruise to Port Louis from the ports of Mumbai or Chennai, or choose to take a boat ride to Mauritius from Madagascar, and have a luxurious experience. However, the cruise journey from Mumbai and Chennai can take approximately 12 or 13 days to reach the destination.
