History of Russia  

Although the Tsardom in Russia started in the mid-16th century, the Russian Empire was officially formed in 1721. French emperor Napoleon launched an unsuccessful invasion of Russia in 1812. The Tsarist regime of the Empire remained strong until it was overthrown by Bolsheviks in the February Revolution in 1917. The Soviet Union was formed after the Russian Civil War which finally collapsed in 1991.
