No swimming experience is needed for an introductory dive, since an instructor stays with you throughout. Sea Walking (Undersea Walk)

A weighted glass helmet goes over your head and oxygen is fed in through a tube while you walk along the seabed surrounded by coral and reef fish. Snorkelling

The easiest way to see Andaman's coral and tropical fish. All it takes is a mask, a snorkel and a few minutes of practice. The shallow, calm waters of Elephant Beach, North Bay and Jolly Buoy are ideal for first-timers, and instructors accompany groups to the better coral patches. Anyone can do it, no experience required, and those three spots are where most trips head.

Parasailing

You're harnessed beneath a canopy and towed by a speedboat, which lifts you above the lagoon for wide views of the coastline. Sessions are short, instructor-supervised and need no skill, so couples and anyone chasing a thrill take to it quickly. It runs at Elephant Beach and Corbyn's Cove for roughly INR 2,000–4,000.

Sea Kayaking

Paddle through Havelock's mangrove creeks by day, or join a guided night tour to watch bioluminescent plankton light up the water around your paddle, one of the few places in India you can do this. It's calm, low-impact and fine for beginners, which is what draws couples and nature lovers. The mangroves to head for sit around Havelock and Mayabunder.

Jet Ski & Speed Boating

Self-drive jet skis, with a guide riding alongside, plus speed-boat rides for travellers who want pace rather than depth. They're quick, the kit is included and you need no experience, which makes them an easy fast thrill for groups and families. Both run at North Bay and Corbyn's Cove, from around INR 500–1,000 a ride.

Glass-Bottom Boat Rides

See the coral gardens without getting in the water. A glass-floored boat glides over the reef so children and non-swimmers can watch the marine life below, which makes it the pick for families with young kids and anyone who'd rather stay dry. It runs from North Bay.

Game Fishing

Andaman's deeper waters hold barracuda, tuna and trevally, and afternoon sport-fishing trips off Havelock and North Bay hand you proper tackle and put you on the fish. Many boats will cook your catch for you that evening. First-timers and seasoned anglers both get a trip out of it, in the open water off Havelock and North Bay.

Trekking & Bird Watching

Beyond the water, Andaman has genuine trails. Saddle Peak near Diglipur is the archipelago's highest point at 732 m, while Mount Harriet (about 30 km from Port Blair) and the Madhuban trail are forest treks. Chidiya Tapu, the "Bird Island" at the southern tip of South Andaman, is where you go for birdwatching and sunsets. It's hiker-and-nature-watcher territory, spread across Diglipur, Mount Harriet and Chidiya Tapu.

Where to Do Each Adventure Activity in Andaman

How to Reach Andaman

Andaman is reached by air or by sea. Most travellers fly into Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, with direct flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Passenger ships also sail to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam (Vizag); the voyage takes around three to four days and is an experience in itself, but flying is far quicker.
