Introduction
Why Andaman Is India's Top Adventure Destination
Andaman sits roughly 1,370 km off mainland India in the Bay of Bengal, and that distance is the whole point. The reefs are healthy, the visibility underwater regularly crosses 15 metres, and almost every signature activity, diving, sea walking, snorkelling, parasailing, happens in warm, sheltered water that suits complete beginners as well as certified divers. Activities run under trained instructors with safety briefings and equipment included, so first-timers and non-swimmers can take part on the same trip as experienced adventurers. The season is long and predictable: stable, swimmable seas from October to May. For most travellers, one Andaman trip combines more distinct adventure activities in one place than any other Indian beach destination.
Top Adventure Activities in Andaman
Each activity below is part of a customisable package. Indicative standalone activity costs are shown as a guide; most are bundled into the itineraries further down.
Scuba Diving
Andaman's headline activity. Beginners can do a guided shore or boat dive with no certification, while PADI/SSI centres run certified and advanced dives on the wrecks and reefs off Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep). No swimming experience is needed for an introductory dive, since an instructor stays with you throughout. It suits everyone from first-timers to certified divers, and you can do it off Havelock, Neil or North Bay. Reckon on INR 2,500–6,500 depending on whether you go shore or boat and how deep you drop.
Sea Walking (Undersea Walk)
A weighted glass helmet goes over your head and oxygen is fed in through a tube while you walk along the seabed surrounded by coral and reef fish. You do not need to swim, dive or even get your face wet, which is why it's the activity families, older travellers and children gravitate to. Non-swimmers manage it easily. You'll find it at North Bay and Elephant Beach (Havelock), and it runs around INR 3,500.
Snorkelling
The easiest way to see Andaman's coral and tropical fish. All it takes is a mask, a snorkel and a few minutes of practice. The shallow, calm waters of Elephant Beach, North Bay and Jolly Buoy are ideal for first-timers, and instructors accompany groups to the better coral patches. Anyone can do it, no experience required, and those three spots are where most trips head.
Parasailing
You're harnessed beneath a canopy and towed by a speedboat, which lifts you above the lagoon for wide views of the coastline. Sessions are short, instructor-supervised and need no skill, so couples and anyone chasing a thrill take to it quickly. It runs at Elephant Beach and Corbyn's Cove for roughly INR 2,000–4,000.
Sea Kayaking
Paddle through Havelock's mangrove creeks by day, or join a guided night tour to watch bioluminescent plankton light up the water around your paddle, one of the few places in India you can do this. It's calm, low-impact and fine for beginners, which is what draws couples and nature lovers. The mangroves to head for sit around Havelock and Mayabunder.
Jet Ski & Speed Boating
Self-drive jet skis, with a guide riding alongside, plus speed-boat rides for travellers who want pace rather than depth. They're quick, the kit is included and you need no experience, which makes them an easy fast thrill for groups and families. Both run at North Bay and Corbyn's Cove, from around INR 500–1,000 a ride.
Glass-Bottom Boat Rides
See the coral gardens without getting in the water. A glass-floored boat glides over the reef so children and non-swimmers can watch the marine life below, which makes it the pick for families with young kids and anyone who'd rather stay dry. It runs from North Bay.
Game Fishing
Andaman's deeper waters hold barracuda, tuna and trevally, and afternoon sport-fishing trips off Havelock and North Bay hand you proper tackle and put you on the fish. Many boats will cook your catch for you that evening. First-timers and seasoned anglers both get a trip out of it, in the open water off Havelock and North Bay.
Trekking & Bird Watching
Beyond the water, Andaman has genuine trails. Saddle Peak near Diglipur is the archipelago's highest point at 732 m, while Mount Harriet (about 30 km from Port Blair) and the Madhuban trail are forest treks. Chidiya Tapu, the "Bird Island" at the southern tip of South Andaman, is where you go for birdwatching and sunsets. It's hiker-and-nature-watcher territory, spread across Diglipur, Mount Harriet and Chidiya Tapu.
Diving-focused travellers can go deeper with our dedicated Andaman scuba diving packages, which expand the certified-dive and multi-dive options beyond what the adventure itineraries cover.
Where to Do Each Adventure Activity in Andaman
Andaman's activities are spread across three main hubs: Port Blair and its nearby islands, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep). Use this map to plan which island to base each part of your trip on.
| Activity | Best Location | Island / Hub |
|---|---|---|
| Scuba diving | Nemo Reef, The Wall, Lighthouse | Havelock & Neil |
| Sea walking | North Bay, Elephant Beach | Port Blair & Havelock |
| Snorkelling | Elephant Beach, Jolly Buoy | Havelock & Mahatma Gandhi Marine NP |
| Parasailing | Elephant Beach, Corbyn's Cove | Havelock & Port Blair |
| Sea kayaking | Mangrove creeks (incl. night kayaking) | Havelock & Mayabunder |
| Jet ski / speed boat | North Bay, Corbyn's Cove | Port Blair |
| Glass-bottom boat | North Bay coral gardens | Port Blair |
| Game fishing | Open water off the reef | Havelock & North Bay |
| Trekking & birding | Saddle Peak, Mount Harriet, Chidiya Tapu | Diglipur & South Andaman |
North Bay Beach, just north of Port Blair and known for its lighthouse, is the easiest first stop: sea walking, snorkelling, glass-bottom boats and jet skis all run from here. The Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park at Wandoor (about 29 km from Port Blair), set up in 1983 to protect the islands' coral and nesting sea turtles, is the protected-reef snorkelling base. For the headline diving and the calmest water, base yourself on Havelock and Neil.

Best Time for Adventure & Water Sports in Andaman
October to May is the season for adventure in Andaman: the seas are stable, visibility underwater is at its best, and conditions suit diving, snorkelling, sea walking and parasailing. Temperatures stay between roughly 20°C and 30°C. The monsoon months (June to September) bring unsettled water and rough waves near the beaches, and many water sports pause for safety. For a full month-by-month breakdown, see the Andaman tourism guide.
How to Reach Andaman
Andaman is reached by air or by sea. Most travellers fly into Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, with direct flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Passenger ships also sail to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam (Vizag); the voyage takes around three to four days and is an experience in itself, but flying is far quicker. From Port Blair, ferries connect to Havelock and Neil in one to two hours.

FAQs About Andaman Adventure Tour Packages
Do I need to know swimming for scuba diving or sea walk in Andaman?
No. Introductory scuba dives and sea walks are designed for non-swimmers, a trained instructor stays with you the whole time, and for a sea walk you simply walk along the seabed wearing an oxygen helmet without getting your face wet. Certified or deep dives do require swimming ability, but the beginner activities most packages include do not.
What is the best time for water sports and adventure activities in Andaman?
October to May. During these months the sea is calm and visibility underwater is at its best, so diving, snorkelling, sea walking and parasailing all run reliably. The monsoon (June to September) brings rough water and many water sports pause for safety.
Which is better, scuba diving or sea walk?
They suit different travellers. Scuba diving goes deeper, lasts longer and shows you more marine life, but needs a short briefing and basic comfort in water. A sea walk is effortless, needs no swimming and works for children and older travellers, you walk on the seabed in an oxygen helmet. Many of our packages include both so you can compare.
How much do adventure activities cost in Andaman?
As a guide, scuba diving runs about ₹2,500–6,500 depending on shore versus boat dives, sea walking around ₹3,500, parasailing roughly ₹2,000–4,000, and jet-ski rides ₹500–1,000. Costs vary by operator and season; many activities are bundled into the package price, and your agent can confirm exact rates.
Are adventure activities included in the tour package or paid separately?
It depends on the package. Several itineraries include water sports and a sea walk or snorkelling session in the price; others list them as add-ons so you only pay for what you want. Because every package is customisable, you can have your chosen activities built into the quote upfront.
Is parasailing and jet ski safe in Andaman, and where can I do them?
Yes. Both run under trained operators with safety equipment and short briefings, and need no prior skill. Parasailing is popular at Elephant Beach and Corbyn's Cove, while jet skis run at North Bay and Corbyn's Cove.
Is Andaman safe for adventure activities and families?
Yes. Activities are run by trained instructors with equipment and briefings included, and most, sea walking, snorkelling, glass-bottom boats, are family-friendly and suit non-swimmers and children. Port Blair has hospitals and clinics, and our local agents provide 24/7 on-trip support.
Which island should I choose for which activity?
Port Blair and nearby North Bay cover sea walking, snorkelling, glass-bottom boats and jet skis. Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) is the base for the best scuba diving, Elephant Beach water sports and game fishing. Neil (Shaheed Dweep) offers quieter reefs and good snorkelling. Most packages combine Port Blair with Havelock and Neil.
