KheerGanga in Kasol is a beautiful, frothy-white mountain river.

It falls from high up in the mountains, and the only way to reach it is via a short but arduous trek. The Kheer Ganga Trek is famed all over the country, with trekking enthusiasts raving about the beauty of it. The trek roughly is of no more than 12 kms, and can be covered in no more than 5 or 6 hours if you take only a couple of short breaks. People who have frequent trekking experience can easily reach KheerGanga and then return the same day, but for those who have the time and would like to relax for a little while before returning, there is the option of staying at the camp at KheerGanga for the night and return in the morning. You can carry your own tent or hire some from the guides at the lodge at the summit.

History of Kheerganga

Kheerganga in Kasol has rich mythological history attached to it. It is believed that during the Satyug period, kheer emerged out of the Ganga river with the blessings of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Later, on arrival of the Kalyug period, Parshuram stopped the flowing of kheer and converted it into the hot spring. Today also, milk-like particles can be seen flowing in the river and it is believed that the hot water of the river is rich in minerals which can cure various skin and stomach diseases.

Trekking Route to Kheerganga

Kheerganga is one of the most scenic treks in India. There is a variety of flora that can be witnessed on the trails which looks heavenly beautiful. The trek to Kheerganga starts from Barshaini. There are two options from Barshaini which leads to Kheerganga trek, one is through Kalga and other is through Shiva Temple. One can find immense greenery on either side of the trekking trails. Small wooden houses can also be seen as you go along the trekking trails. One can witness the streams of water throughout the trek, the sound of which is very soothing and relaxing. On reaching Kheerganga in Kasol, one can just relax in the hot water springs here and can also enjoy camping.
