About Po Lin Monastery in Hong Kong
A very serene and enchanting place to visit in Hong Kong is the Po Lin Monastery that is located atop a picturesque hill of Lantau Island. It is a Buddhist monastery and just next to the monastery is a gigantic statue of Big Buddha, which is a popular tourist place in Hong Kong.
Po Lin is a 111 years old monastery which was established by three Buddhist monks who were spellbound at the beauty of the Lantau Island. Opened as a small thatched hut monastery, it is now a grand one attracting lakhs of visitors every year. The monastery is now so big that it houses a hall, restaurant, gardens and the Big Buddha. There is also a massive bell inside the temple which weighs 1 tonne.
Po Lin Monastery in Hong Kong is a great place to spend some time in solace and to feel the beauty of stunning landscape that surrounds the monastery. The Big Buddha statue which is just aside the monastery is the largest statue of Buddha in the world in the seated form. It took 12 years for the construction of this statue. One can also have delectable vegetarian dishes in the Po Lin Monastery’s restaurant which is a treat for the taste buds and also for the pocket as the food is reasonable.
There are also exhibition halls inside the monastery where various items of related to Buddhism are on display which are precious and of great importance hence the hall is chargeable. Otherwise, other areas of the monastery and the Big Buddha statue are free to visit. It is very easy to get to Po Lin Monastery. Po Lin Monastery cable car is one thing we would highly recommend you to choose to travel to the monastery as you will be able to catch the gorgeous views from the top.
