About Tsing Ma Bridge In Hong Kong
Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong is an impressively massive structure that looks spectacular by day and glitzy by night. It is a remarkable feature of Hong Kong’s engineering as it links the Lantau Island to the rest of Hong Kong. The bridge stretches along a length of 2.16 km. It was declared open to traffic in the year 1997 as an important part of infrastructure serving the latest airport on the island of Lantau. Ever since it was open to the public, it has been a favorite local sightseeing among locals as well as tourists. It is famous for being the 11th-longest span suspension bridge in the entire world. During the time of its completion, it was also the second longest bridge. There are two decks that is responsible for commuting road and rail traffic.
Tsing Ma Bridge is also the longest suspension bridge that caters to both rail and road traffic in the world. Tsing Ma Bridge was named after the two rear ends of the city : Tsing Yi and Ma Wan. One of the peculiar things about the bridge is that during an emergency typhoon situation in Hong Kong, the six lanes of the bridge are shut down while the two railway lines and road lanes under the bridge can still function and help the passengers transfer from the airport.
There are two major tourist spots in Tsing Ma Bridge - Lantau Link Viewing Platform and Visitors Centre. Located to the northwest of Tsing Yi Island, these places offer spectacular views of the city. The Tsing Ma Bridge is not only a landmark in the city but also a famous scenic spot. You can easily catch a glimpse of the bridge from the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre which is situated just 2 kilometres towards the north of the bridge.
