Shanti Stupa in Ladakh

Tourism in India is not complete without visiting Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. The mighty Himalayan backdrop with evergreen fields, magical white snow and lively lakes makes this region more suitable to add it to anyone’s bucket list. One of the wonder in Ladakh is Shanti Stupa. Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist religious shrine with a white dome located on the hill top of Chanspa at 5 KMs from Leh in the Ladakh region. Shanti Stupa was built by Japanese Buddhist Monk Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura and part of the Peace Pagoda mission in the year 1991. This stupa is built as a mark of successful completion of 2500 years of Buddhism. This is built to spread world peace and as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Ladakh. The holy relics of Buddha are protected and are enshrined by 14th Dalai Lama at the base of the Shanti Stupa in Ladakh. This stupa is known to have various sculptures of Buddha depicting his life stories such as his birth, defeating the devils, and the death of Buddha on the panels.

Shanti Stupa Leh Ladakh is surrounded by the native traditional villages andsnow clad mountains. The way to Khardung La, Shindu Ghat, Stok village and many places can be clearly seen from the Stupa. The stupa provides a spectacular and extensive view of the surrounding landscape. The sunrise and sunset are the two most popular views of this place. During sunset and sunrise, stupa is crowded with lots of visitors who gather here to experience the scintillating views of the area. Tourists flock to this place between 5 am to 9 pmto enjoy an unbelievable view of the serene Leh town.

Shanti Stupa in Ladakh is built at the height of 4,267meters with 500 steep steps. Tourists can reach this stupa either by driving or by walking. Going through the hardship of climbing the 500 steps does make us tired but the dazzling view on the top of the hill will make you refreshed and mesmerized and lets you forget the pain. The stupa looks more beautiful during the night since it is illuminated in the dark with beautiful lights. Due to this panoramic view and different architectural style, Shanti Stupa remains as an attractive top tourist destination among others in Ladakh. Though this is a religious shrine, it is looked as a hot tourist spot for its incomparable views.
