How to reach Shanti Stupa in Ladakh

Shanti Stupa is a symbol of tranquility built for spreading world peace. It is situated on the hill top of Chanspa at 5 KM distance from Leh town in Ladakh. Shanti Stupa is located at the height of 11,841 feet. Due to its location and height, this stupa can be seen from all places of Leh and Khardung La top. The parking area is available at 100 meters before the stupa. Visitors can drive or walk to this place by road and climb the 500 steep steps of this stupa. The shape of this stupa is rounded hence one need to walk and climb in the marked clock wise direction of the Stupa. From the free area on the top of the stupa, stupendous views of the entire neighborhood of Leh town can be seen and admired. There are also markings made on the walls outside of the stupa indicating the direction of views for various places such as Shindu Ghat and Khardunga pass. To get captivated by the views of Shanti Stupa, reach this place by 3 ways such as by air, by rail and by road.

Reaching Shanti Stupa by air is the fastest and most convenient way. One can reach Leh International Airport and then take a taxi to view the amazing Shanti Stupa. This airport is well connected to the major cities of India such as New Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Srinagar etc.The aerial distance from Khardung La pass to Shanti Stupa is around 9.50 KMs.

The nearest railway terminal to Leh is located in Pathankot and Chandigarh at a distance of around 800 KMs. It will take approximately 3 days to travel through this route to Leh. Hence it is mostly avoided by everyone.

To enjoy the astounding views of the place, travelers usually choose car or bike from Manali to reach Leh. Leh is at 473 KMs distance from Manali. Travelling distance from Khardung La pass to Shanti Stupa is 38 KMs by road. Public and private buses are available to travel within the city for cheaper rates which is the comfortable way of traveling usually preferred for saving money. Taxis can also be hired for the same.
