About Nashik
Mythology and Folk Tales
Nashik offers a perfect mix of mythological, historical, social and cultural significance. In different periods, Nashik was called Padmanagar, Trikantak, and Janasthana during the Satya, Treta, and Dvapara Yuga, respectively. The mythology of Nashik is related to Lord Rama, the King of Ayodhya and the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. During his 14 years in exile, Lord Rama stayed in Nashik with his wife Sita and brother Laxman. At the same place, by the wish of Lord Rama, Laxman cut off the nose of Ravan’s sister, Shurpanakha; thus, this city was named Nashik.
