History of Pune
Pune is derived from the word Punya meaning holy. The first existence of the city can be traced back to 768 and 758 AD from the copper plates found in the area. These plates were made during the rule of Rashtrakuta and during the same period stunning Pataleshwar rock-cut temple. Around the 9th century, Pune was under the rule of the Yadava Empire. Pune has a very good network of airways with major cities in India like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, etc. You can board the flight from any of the cities and can directly land in Pune. The major airport in Pune is Pune Airport which is located in Lohegaon which is approx. 15 km from the main city centre. Pune distance from Delhi by air is 1173 km while from Mumbai it is just 118 km. Flights like GoAir, Air India, SpiceJet, Alliance Air, etc. Traveling by air is the easiest and the most convenient method though a bit costly. In order to get to the main city from the airport, passengers can make use of taxis or local buses which you will get right outside the airport.
By Train
Rail connectivity of Pune from different cities is very well and is also affordable. The nearest railway station to Pune is Pune Junction Railway Station. Trains running from Pune to Mumbai are Shatabdi Express, Deccan Queen etc. The time taken for a train journey between Mumbai and Pune is from 3.5 to 4 hours. If you wish to visit Pune by train from Delhi then the approximately time taken would be 19 to 20 hours. Pune junction Duronto Express, Chandigarh Yesvantpur Junction, and Jhelum Express etc run from Delhi to Pune route.
By Road
If you seek help of Google Pune road map, you will easily be able to reach Pune by road. Pune has good road connectivity between cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. If you choose to travel to Pune by road from Mumbai by road then you need to take Mumbai-Pune Highway which is also a very scenic drive and would take around 2 hours 45 minutes to reach Pune from Mumbai. Bangalore to Pune takes around 13 to 14 hours via NH 48. Regular buses are available from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangapore, Nashik to Pune which are affordable and also a good method to reach Pune.
