About Maharashtra Tourism

Lying in the western peninsular side of the country of India, Maharashtra is ranked second when it comes to counting the population of Indian states. Maharashtra tourism plays a significant role in contributing towards the economy of the state. With Arabian Sea bordering this Indian state, all the cities lying at its western region here are adorned with a breathtaking backdrop. The state is bordered by Karnataka as well as Goa in the southern side, Chhattisgarh and Telangana at the east, while in the northwestern region there’s the Indian union territory, named Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Some of the best places to visit in Maharashtra are Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Mumbai, Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar, Pune, Rajmachi, Lonavala, Shirdi, Nashik, Matheran, etc are some of the places that makes Maharashtra tourism, famous all over the world. Maharashtra is very famous for its city called Mumbai and the Bollywood Industry. Also, the cuisine and culture of Maharashtra win hearts of millions of tourists who come to Maharashtra.

People and Culture in Maharashtra

To know more about Maharashtra, one should also try to understand the people here as well as the culture they follow. The Indian state of Maharashtra ranks second when the world’s most populous subnational entities are considered. Since the population is huge here, the cultural dynamics here are naturally prominent. Officially, the language spoken by the people of Maharashtra is Marathi and the dialect seems to be varying from one region to another. However, there’s a lot of influence from the neighboring states. You can even find that there are people who speak other languages like Kannada, Konkani, and Gujarati in some of the regions. One of the biggest reasons of the development of Maharashtra state tourism is its culture only. The people are quite welcoming and it is not difficult to break the ice with them.

Historical Significance of Maharashtra

This Indian state was under the rule of the Maurya Empire and this scenario takes you back to the 4th and 3rd centuries B.C.E. However, in 230 BCE, the state of Maharashtra was ruled under the Satavahana dynasty and this phase didn’t end before 400 years. After that, there were many empires and dynasties under which the state was ruled. The British Empire ruled the wester region of Maharashtra, which they considered as the Bombay Presidency. This presidency constituted the divisions of Nashik, Pune, and Konkan.

Festivals in Maharashtra:

Ganesh Chaturthi: Ganesha Chaturthi is one of the most popular festivals in Maharashtra which is celebrated by all the people including Bollywood celebrities with great pomp and show. People bring home eco-friendly Ganesha for around 9 days and then go for visarjan with great excitement. Tourism in Maharashtra makes great arrangements so that the tourists can also participate in this festival.

Nag Panchmi: This festival is celebrated on the 5th day of the holy month of Shravan when people offer prayers to Shesha Nag, known as the snake God. People on this day offer sweets and milk to snake and offer prayers to them. It is an important festival in Maharashtra.

Famous Food of Maharashtra

Bhel Puri: One of the famous foods in Maharashtra which is now popular even in northern India is bhel puri. The rice puffs sprinkled with tamarind chutney and vegetables makes for the perfect light snack. Bhelpuri can be seen at every street in Mumbai and also at the beaches and Chowpatty.

Vada Pav: Another popular dish in Maharashtra which is not only cheap but also tasty vada pav. People, rich or poor can be seen eating vada pav on the streets of Maharashtra. It is bread bun, inside which deep-fried potato is placed along with chutney topping.

Pav Bhaji: Pav Bhaji is another dish which is famous throughout Maharashtra. A mix of all the veggies served with bread called pav is so tempting that will make your lure for more and more. It is often served with onions and butter on the top.

It was a great experience to spend the vacation time with my family. Thanks much for the organizers to have a great itinerary and professional driver who took care of our needs. However, it would have been great if the organizers could have made some pro-active suggestions in few plans. For example:
I had to tell them to include the ferry experience to Alibag from Mumbai as the initial plan they had made did not involve the ferry - but the on-road trip to Alibag. These small things matter.
