About Eureka House in Mauritius
The Eureka house is a unique building in the country's history. It is a Creole house built in the year 1830. The site is located near the river of Moka. The house was built by the British and French aristocrats in the 19th century. It has 109 doors and windows and has a shady veranda. The Eureka mansion and its grounds give tourists a window into the colonial life. Recently the house is filled with antiques and pictures from the colonial period. There is a magnificent garden surrounded by small waterfalls.
The Eureka house was renovated and reopened in the year 1986. At present gardens of the house feature natural fauna such as mango trees and palms. The house has a museum which displays antique maps, music, and art pieces, Chinese and Indian housewares. The Eureka house is a great site for history lovers and nature lovers. Tourists can find lush green gardens and endemic plant species in the garden. There are four small waterfalls in the gardens of the Eureka house in Mauritius.
The La Maison Creole is the museum’s own restaurant. In this restaurant, tourists can try cuisine from the island’s diverse blend of cultures. Tea is also offered along with spices, jams, chutneys, and other food items. Tourists can buy souvenirs like scented candles, exotic jewellery, scarfs, and jam for their friends and family.
