Le Pouce or The Thumb stands as the third highest mountain (with a height of 812 meters) in entire Mauritius after Piton de la Petite Riviere and Pieter Both. Le Pouce Mauritius hiking is quite popular for the views of the city that it offers. Its peak can be seen from Port Louis. Le Pouce Mauritius has formed nearly 10 million years ago in a basalt lava dome. It is significant to note that Charles Darwin ascended this mountain on 2nd May 1836. The mountain has some endemic species of flora that enhance its significance.
The Le Pouce Mauritius hiking is an amazing and adventurous experience for the tourists. The climb is not termed very hard and can be actually enjoyed. It is a hike of nearly 4.3 kilometers and takes nearly 2-3 hours. The peak of the mountain offers stunning panoramic views of the capital of the island, Port Louis. Towards the north are the Snake Island and the Flat Island while after turning a bit, one can view the Pieter Both towards the East. The south is covered with many mountains and oceans and lastly the views of the entire Moka range.
