About Kirti Stambh in Chittorgarh
Kirti Stambh is one of the renowned structures located within the boundaries of Chittorgarh Fort. The total height of this stambh (tower) is 22 meters high and was built by a merchant named Jeeja Bhagerwala. The tower was erected to showcase the glory of Jainism. Kirti Stambh was built during the rule of Rawal Kumar Singh and has great importance in Jainism. Kirti Stambh is beautifully carved and contains figures and scripts from Jainism.
Kirti Stambh history dates back to 12-century. The tower has been dedicated to Sri Adinath, the first Tirthankar in Jainism. Kirti Stambh is also known as Tower of Fame and is designed in a very special way using Solanki art and architecture. There are numerous intricate balconies and minute style windows in the tower. The tower is seven-storey tower with an observation deck on the top from where tourists can have a view of the surroundings and also of the habitation. One can visit the top through a very narrow circular flight of stairs.
There are various figures of Tirthankara which proves that the tower of fame belongs to the Digambara sect of Jainism. This tower is considered as the major pilgrimage site in the Jainism religion and many followers of Jainism pay a visit to Kirti Stambh at least once in life. On a visit to Chittorgarh Fort, one must definitely visit Kirti Stambh and have a look at the naked figurines and other inscriptions which it has.
The total time required for exploring the Kirti Stambh is 1 to 1.5 hours. There is no entry fees to the Stambh and it is best visited during the winter season is from October to February when the temperature is pleasant and you won't find scorching heat of Rajasthan. It can be visited anytime between 10:00 in the morning till 05:00 in the evening.
