Jaisalmer Fort In Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the world’s largest forts. It is an architectural marvel, that was built in the year 1156 AD by the Rajput king Rao Jaisal, after whom the city of Jaisalmer is named. Interestingly, about 3000 people are living in the periphery of the fort.  Jaisalmer Fort is also known as Sonar Quila. It lies about 50 meters above the city. Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan and is declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Jaisalmer Fort is about 460 meters long and 230 meters wide. One of the most famous structures of Jaisalmer Fort is the Maharwal Palace whose main attraction is the marble throne. Another attraction of the Jaisalmer Fort, known as Tazia tower, is a five storied structure which is located near the Maharwal Palace.

Jaisalmer Fort showcases a perfect blend of the Rajput and Islamic architecture and is rightly reflected in Jawahar Palace, another attraction of the fort. It was this place where the royal family used to live. Jawahar Palace has a unique architectural design and one simply cannot afford to miss it on the Jaisalmer Fort tour.
