About Kunzum Pass in Spiti
One of India's highest motorable mountain pass, Kunzum La Pass is the majestic gateway to the Spiti Valley via Kullu and Lahaul Valley in Himachal Pradesh. Kunzum pass is situated at an altitude of around 15,059 feet above the sea level and lies on the eastern Kunzum range of the Himalayas, around 122 kms from Manali. Bikers in large numbers visit this spot every year to experience the most thrilling ride across the spectacular Gateway Of Kunzum pass. The beautiful route compels the tourists to stop midway for capturing the marvellous views of the surrounding mountains and greenery.
Kunzum Pass offers a magical 360° view of the incredible Bara shigri Glacier which is the second longest glacier in the world. Apart from the Bara shigri Glacier, Kunzum La Pass also offers stunning views of the the snow covered mountains of the Chandrabhaga range as well as the cold desert terrain of Spiti Valley.
The Kunzum Pass is also renowned for housing the Kunjum Devi Temple. All the tourists stop by the temple to take blessings of Goddess Durga for the journey ahead. The tradition is to take a complete circle of the temple in one's vehicle. This temple is surrounded by Buddhist style Gompas, Chortans and hundreds of colourful prayer flags as seen on monasteries. The strong Buddhist influence at Kunzum La Pass is clearly visible and is a sight to behold.
A beautiful mixture of rugged, dry and barren mountains, massive glaciers and turquoise river of Spiti, Kunzum La Pass attracts tourists from across the globe to experience the charm and exhilaration it offers.
