Kandy City is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. However, there are always doubts regarding how to reach Kandy City or the most convenient way to reach the city. If you are planning to travel from Chennai to Kandy City, there is no direct route to the destination. The Chennai to Kandy flight will first take you to the capital city of Sri Lanka, Colombo. From here, you can travel to Kandy City by various ways of transport like the train, bus or a cab to reach the city.

As soon as you alight from your flight in Colombo, the second half of your Chennai to Kandy travel starts. If you plan to travel by train, deboard your flight and board a train from the Colombo Railway Station and alight at the Kandy Railway Station. This ride takes approximately 2 hours and is accompanied by various railway facilities. The view outside the train is enjoyable and a must-try. The trains keep running throughout the day but you will need to buy tickets to get an individual seat for yourselves. Please adhere to the timings mentioned in the ticket. The bus is the easiest and cheapest way to reach Kandy city. So, if you plan to take a bus, it will be a 3-hour bus ride from Colombo to Kandy. There are various air-conditioned intercity buses that run throughout the day. However, the bus requires you to buy a ticket at least one week in advance so that you can have a comfortable ride to the city. The ticket allows you to reserve a seat for yourself throughout the ride. Booking a cab or hiring a car should be chosen as a mode of transport if you want to travel individually. The cab usually takes the shortest way to reach the city but it takes more time than the other travel options. The ride is roughly 4 hours. The ride is comfortable and will allow you to make stops on the way to view and admire popular tourist attractions.

The only way to reach Kandy City from India is by air as the sea routes have been permanently stopped due to security and unstable weather conditions.

The most comfortable way to travel to Kandy City is by traveling by means of an airplane. There are many Chennai to Kandy flights like Air India, Indigo, Spicejet and Sri Lankan Airways that will take you to and fro Chennai and Sri Lanka. However, you can only take a Sri Lankan flight while traveling from Sri Lanka to Chennai. If you book your tickets at least 4 months in advance, you can avail of a ticket for another plane that will take you from Colombo to Kandy. This plane will drop you in Kandy in about one hour. The first flight takes about 3 hours to take you from Chennai to Columbo. So, the total time taken to reach travel from Chennai to Kandy by air is 4 hours. The timings differ according to the time of purchasing the tickets and the seats available. Since traveling by air is the only way to travel from India to Sri Lanka, there is a huge demand for the purchasing of tickets to travel from Colombo to Kandy City.

Hotels were good with decent vegetarian options available. The cab was in good condition with decent driver, but try allocating someone who is aligned with the hectic/lenient schedule of the trip. Also for the travel agent services, initially itenary was planned and full trip can was chosen with a p

urpose of going to nearby restaurant with convenience. This was clarified over call as well..but this 1as questioned when we wanted to visit a restaurant for lunch. Paid extra for this. May be travel agent should specify how many kms we are allowed to move in a particular day or trip if we are taking cab for complete trip...else there is no use . Also the Sim cards which were given in the package stopped working one day before our trip ended...whi h caused lot of hassle when we were outside the hotel. Overall the trip experience was good , but could have been better if above points were taken care of
