With flights or land only?
Take a package with flights if you want one price and the agent holding seats on the daily IndiGo flight. Those seats go first in the Puja, Christmas and New Year weeks. Take land only if you have IndiGo miles, want to fly into Ho Chi Minh City via Bangkok or Singapore, or are joining from another city. The land price covers everything on the ground, and the agent plans day one around whichever flight you book. Ready-made with flights? The 3 nights 4 days Vietnam package from Kolkata with flights has the day-by-day plan and hotels.
How to Reach Vietnam from Kolkata
IndiGo first launched its Kolkata to Hanoi non-stop in October 2019, and from 25 October 2026 the flight runs daily at midday instead of late at night. Hanoi is about 1,800 km away and 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of IST.
| Option | Route | How often | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-stop | IndiGo 6E1631, Kolkata 12:50 to Hanoi 16:55 | Daily | About 2 hrs 35 min |
| Non-stop, return | IndiGo 6E1632, Hanoi 14:05 to Kolkata 15:40 | Daily | About 3 hrs 5 min |
| To Ho Chi Minh City | Kolkata to Hanoi, then a domestic flight south (about 2 hrs 10 min), or one stop via Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur | Daily | 6 to 12 hrs with layover |
| To Da Nang or Phu Quoc | Kolkata to Hanoi, then a domestic flight (about 1 hr 20 min to Da Nang, about 2 hrs 10 min to Phu Quoc) | Daily | 6 to 9 hrs with connection |
IndiGo's Kolkata to Ho Chi Minh City non-stop has been suspended since July 2026, so any page still calling it "direct" is out of date. For a south-first trip, most travellers now fly into Hanoi and take a cheap domestic hop, or book open-jaw and fly home from Hanoi.
The new timing changes how a trip from Kolkata feels. You check in at your Hanoi hotel by about 19:00, which means no paid early check-in and no lost first morning. On the last day the 14:05 departure leaves the morning free for one more walk around Hoan Kiem Lake. For check-in rules at Kolkata's international terminal, baggage limits and backup routes, read our full guide on how to reach Vietnam from Kolkata.
Vietnam e-Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam, and the e-visa is the easy route. Apply on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn, at least two weeks before you fly. It costs US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry, allows a stay of up to 90 days and usually comes through in about 3 working days. Your passport must be valid for 6 months from arrival. Enter "Noi Bai, Hanoi" as your port of entry if you are on the Kolkata flight.
You may read that Phu Quoc is visa-free for 30 days. It applies when you fly into Phu Quoc from abroad, or connect through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City without leaving the airport transit area. Our Phu Quoc packages include a night or two in a city, so you will clear immigration on the mainland and need the e-visa anyway. The step-by-step process is in our Vietnam visa for Indians guide.
What's Included in a Vietnam Package from Kolkata
Most Vietnam packages from Kolkata include hotels with breakfast, airport transfers, guided sightseeing and a Ha Long Bay cruise. Check whether the cruise is a day trip or an overnight stay. The overnight boats add dinner, kayaking near the limestone islands, a stop at Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave and sunrise on deck, and many now head for the quieter Lan Ha or Bai Tu Long bays.
| Usually included | Usually not included |
|---|---|
| 3 or 4 star hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast | E-visa fee (unless the card says visa included) |
| Airport transfers in Vietnam | Lunches and dinners not listed in the itinerary |
| Ha Long Bay cruise (day or overnight, as listed) | Tips for guides, drivers and cruise crew |
| Guided sightseeing with entry tickets on listed days | Travel insurance |
| Return IndiGo economy flights from Kolkata on "with flights" cards | Ba Na Hills cable car, water puppet show, personal shopping |
| Domestic flights on multi-city itineraries, where listed | Extra checked baggage beyond the airline allowance |
Sample Itineraries from Kolkata
3N/4D Hanoi and Ha Long Bay (built around the IndiGo flight)
Land at 16:55, clear immigration and drive about 45 to 60 minutes into Hanoi, and you are in the Old Quarter by about 19:00, in time for an evening at Hoan Kiem Lake. Day two is the 2.5-hour drive to Ha Long and a night on the bay, and day three is back in Hanoi for the Temple of Literature. On day four you fly home on the 14:05 and land in Kolkata at 15:40. Hotels and the day-by-day plan are on the 3 nights 4 days Vietnam package from Kolkata page, at Rs 57,900 with flights.
7N/8D Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Da Nang and Hoi An
Spend two nights in Hanoi and one on a Ha Long Bay cruise, then fly about 1 hr 20 min south to Da Nang for a night. Ride the Ba Na Hills cable car to the Golden Bridge, the walkway held up by two giant stone-look hands. The next two nights are in Hoi An, where the old town lights its silk lanterns every evening and a tailor can stitch a suit in a day. Fly back to Hanoi for the last night so you make the midday Kolkata flight without a dawn connection. For a south-first trip with the Cu Chi Tunnels, the War Remnants Museum and a Mekong Delta boat ride, ask your agent to swap Da Nang for Ho Chi Minh City.
Ideal Duration
Four days covers Hanoi and an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise, and the daily midday flight from Kolkata makes that work with two days of leave around a weekend. Five days adds Ninh Binh's Trang An boat ride or a day in Sapa. A 6N/7D Kolkata to Vietnam tour package leaves room for slow mornings, or for Da Nang and Hoi An. Ten days or more lets you run north to south and finish in Ho Chi Minh City or on Phu Quoc.
Best Time to Visit Vietnam from Kolkata
The best time to visit Vietnam from Kolkata is October to April, and it lines up neatly with Bengal's holiday calendar. Vietnam is long and thin, though, so the north, centre and south peak in different months. Match the region to your break.
| Bengal holiday window | North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Sapa) | Central (Da Nang, Hoi An) | South (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durga Puja and Kali Puja (October to early November) | Dry, clear and about 20 to 28°C. Best pick | Heaviest rain of the year, so skip | Rains easing by November |
| Christmas and New Year (December to early January) | Cool, 15 to 20°C in Hanoi, near freezing in Sapa | Still wet | Dry and sunny. Best for Phu Quoc |
| Tet and spring (late January to April) | Mild, clear by March | Dry from February | Hot and dry |
| School summer vacation (May to June) | Hot and humid, 30 to 35°C, with afternoon showers | Peak beach season | Wet season begins |
Tet, the Lunar New Year, falls on 6 February 2027. The week around it is festive, but many shops shut and hotel prices jump, so plan around it. Storms between July and October can call off a Ha Long cruise for a day, which is why summer itineraries keep a buffer day. Pack a proper jacket for Hanoi in December and January. Month-by-month weather is in our guide to the best time to visit Vietnam.
Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City First?
Start in Hanoi if you are flying from Kolkata. It is the only city with a non-stop, and Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh and Sapa all sit within a few hours of it.
| Start in | Why | Best months | Add-on from Kolkata |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | Non-stop from Kolkata, Ha Long Bay cruise, Old Quarter, Sapa rice terraces | October to April | None, direct flight |
| Da Nang and Hoi An | Beaches, Ba Na Hills, Hoi An lantern town | February to August | Domestic flight from Hanoi, about 1 hr 20 min |
| Ho Chi Minh City | Cu Chi Tunnels, Mekong Delta, gateway to Phu Quoc | November to April | Domestic flight from Hanoi, about 2 hrs 10 min |
Phu Quoc Tour Package from Kolkata
Phu Quoc is Vietnam's beach island off the south coast, and from Kolkata you reach it through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City in a single day. The 5N/6D Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc package costs Rs 34,020 per person land-only. It pairs two nights of city sightseeing with three on the island, including the Hon Thom cable car over the sea and an island-hopping boat with snorkelling. Go between November and April, when the sea is calm. Island-only stays are on our Phu Quoc tour packages page.
Vietnam Packages from Kolkata for Couples
For couples, the 3N/4D Romantic Vietnam Tour starts at Rs 19,920 per person in Hanoi. The trips that feel most like a honeymoon add a private-balcony cabin on an overnight Ha Long cruise, a lantern-lit evening in Hoi An or a sunset on Phu Quoc's west coast. Ask for those upgrades when you request quotes. More romantic itineraries are on our Vietnam honeymoon packages page.
Vietnam or Thailand from Kolkata?
Both are short hops from Kolkata, so the choice comes down to the kind of trip you want.
| Vietnam | Thailand | |
|---|---|---|
| Non-stop from Kolkata | Hanoi, daily, about 2 hrs 35 min | Bangkok, several daily, about 2 hrs 30 min |
| Visa for Indians | E-visa, US$25 | Visa-free entry |
| Package price from Kolkata | From Rs 14,280 land-only | From Rs 19,000 land-only |
| Best for | Ha Long Bay, mountains, old towns, fewer crowds | Beaches, nightlife, easy Indian food |
Thailand is the easier first trip abroad. Vietnam gives you Ha Long Bay and Hoi An, which have no real match in Thailand. Compare packages on our Thailand tour packages from Kolkata page.
Food for Bengali and Vegetarian Travellers
Vietnamese food sits closer to a Bengali kitchen than most Asian cuisines. Rice comes with every meal, and fish turns up everywhere. Try canh chua ca, a sour fish soup with tamarind and tomato that tastes like a lighter macher tok, and ca kho to, fish braised in a clay pot. Hanoi's best-known dish is cha ca La Vong, turmeric fish fried at the table with dill and spring onion. Pho and grilled river fish are easy wins on day one.
For vegetarians, Vietnam has a Buddhist tradition called chay, and every city has quan chay restaurants. The catch is fish sauce, nuoc mam, which goes into many ordinary dishes. Say "toi an chay, khong nuoc mam" (I eat vegetarian, no fish sauce). Hanoi's Old Quarter and District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City both have Indian restaurants, and your agent can plan dinners around them and request veg meals on the cruise.

Tips For Travelers
• Keep all your necessary documents such as passport and Visa safely. Carry a printout of the e-visa, since immigration at Noi Bai sometimes asks for paper.
• Book hotels in advance and check their ratings online. For Puja and Christmas departures, book 45 to 60 days ahead, because the Kolkata flight is the only non-stop and fills first.
• Do pack a mosquito repellent, especially for Ha Long and the Mekong Delta.
• Pack necessary medications in a first-aid kit.
• While traveling internationally, pack light and carry things as per the season. Hanoi needs a warm jacket from December to February.
• Carry US dollars from Kolkata and change them to Vietnamese dong in Hanoi, where rates beat most Indian forex counters.
• Cover shoulders and knees at temples, pagodas and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
Ready to plan? Share your dates and group size once and compare up to three Vietnam quotes, with or without the Kolkata flight.
